This photo isn’t even my skin at its worst!
It was so bad there was no way to cover them up, and people were always asking what happened to my face. They didn’t even think it was acne because they had never seen it that bad! I tried face washes, topical, and antibiotics but nothing would make it go away. I became depressed and isolated because I knew everyone was looking at my acne.
I had seen Nina and Randa’s videos on acne, in which they talked about getting rid of their acne using a diet inspired by Dr. McDougall. But I was skeptical that the diet would work for me. My dermatologist told me that only Accutane could get rid of my cysts. However, when I saw my regular doctor, she told me that this diet actually would clear up my skin. So I decided to try it as it was my last option before going on Accutane.
Right after starting the diet around June 2017, I saw Nina and Randa’s video announcing that they were looking for people to try the diet through an online study program. I immediately applied because I knew that getting support from others on the same journey would help keep me motivated.
It took a few months before I began to see any results, and it was discouraging to see other participants in the study group announcing early on that their skin was clearing up and posting photos showing their dramatic improvements. However, I knew that my acne was very severe and that it took longer for some people. So I stuck with it. After a few months I began to notice the cysts were receding, and after 6 months my skin was clear! I have a lot of PIH [post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation – red spots] and scars, but the cysts that dermatologists told me would only respond to Accutane are gone!
This diet is not always easy, especially in our modern environment and culture obsessed with fads and quick-fixes. However, if you are serious about clearing up your skin and put in the effort, it is completely doable. My advice is to stop caring what other people think and take care of YOU. Put in the effort and you will be glad you did. Thank you to Nina and Randa for all that you do!
