Aging Gracefully Mini-Course

By John McDougall, MD

The biggest fear that we have as we get older is losing our ability to function, particularly our mental functions. We want to make the best of, and ideally avoid, dementia.

The results of the McDougall program and diet prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that you can make a difference as far as diseases that take you in the prime of life these days.

I’ve been in the practice of medicine for more than half a century. I practice diet therapy which means I use food as the primary approach to people’s diseases, not just prevention but treatment, and the success rate is huge. I practice this way because I love to get good results for my patients.

I have this opportunity during these lectures to be your doctor.  I just like to see everyone have the advantage of this knowledge. (If you’re taking medications, work with your doctor because food is powerful medicine.)

The information within these lectures are messages that every doctor should be providing for their patients.

Dementia – The Greatest Fear of Aging

It’s important to understand that chronic diseases – all of them – are associated with the way you live and how you take care of yourself. If you have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, you’re overweight, or you have diabetes, you’re more likely to become demented.

Of course from my point of view this is primarily food poisoning – it’s primarily diet.

The primary thing you can do and need to understand is the effect diet has not only in preventing illnesses, all the way from heart disease to kidney disease to autoimmune diseases to diabetes – a whole slew of problems that people have – but also diet is the key factor in keeping your mental acuity.

If you’re going to live long, you might as well live smart.

I don’t teach compromise. I teach the best I know and then you do the best you can.
