Updated January 4, 2021
The McDougalls bring you our first of many online discussions on climate change and our future. Planet Earth can still be saved, but only by substantial changes in the foods we choose. Cleaner energy and transportation are vital, but not enough to reverse the devastation that has already transpired since our enlightenment almost 50 years ago. This means we must accelerate the global trend to eat fewer cows, pigs, chickens and fish; and more of the corn, rice and potato meals we love. Over half of the greenhouse gases are generated by agriculture, with the guilty finger pointed purposely at animal agriculture. Most encouraging is science revealing the enormous impact that this seemingly minor act will yield: There can be an 80% reduction in this source of pollution overnight by changing to a vegan diet, as taught by the McDougall Program.
Let the conversation between the science supporting a plant-food-based, life-sustaining diet for people and the health of our planet begin. We are launching a series of lectures focused on real-life, practical, almost cost-free changes that you can employ to shine an optimistic light on an otherwise dismal and hopeless picture.

Join us this Saturday, January 9, 2021 for our first meeting with six world experts.
Host & Speaker – John McDougall, MD
Moderator – Heather McDougall
This is a completely free event open to the first 500 guests who register.
This event was recorded and available on our YouTube channel the following day.
Keegan Kuhn is the award-winning co-director of the highly acclaimed documentary films Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret, executive produced for Netflix by Leonardo DiCaprio, What The Health, executive produced by Joaquin Phoenix. Running For Good, executive produced by James Cromwell, and the yet to be released They’re Trying To Kill Us.
Kuhn is the owner and operator of First Spark Media, a digital film production company tailored to creating films for social justice.
Sailesh Rao, PhD
Dr. Sailesh Rao has over three decades of professional experience and is the Founder and Executive Director of Climate Healers, a non-profit dedicated towards healing the Earth’s climate. A systems specialist with a Ph. D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, Dr. Rao worked on the internet communications infrastructure for twenty years after graduation. During this period, he led the transformation of early analog internet connections to more robust digital connections that also ran ten times faster, at 1Gb/s. In 2006, he switched careers and became deeply immersed, full time, in solving the environmental crises affecting humanity. Dr. Rao is the author of two books, Carbon Dharma: The Occupation of Butterflies and Carbon Yoga: The Vegan Metamorphosis, and an Executive Producer of four documentaries, The Human Experiment (2013), Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret (2014), What The Health (2017), and A Prayer for Compassion (2019).
Dr. Rao is a Human, Earth and Animal Liberation (HEAL) activist, husband, dad and since 2010, a star-struck grandfather. He has promised his granddaughter, Kimaya, that the world will be largely Vegan before she turns 16 in 2026, so that people will stop eating her relatives, the animals. He has faith that humanity will transform to keep his pinky promise to Kimaya, not just for ethical reasons, but also out of sheer ecological necessity.
Gerard Wedderburn-Bisshop worked as a Principal Scientist with Queensland Government Natural Resources, monitoring vegetation cover and broadscale deforestation. He left government in 2010 to co-author the Beyond Zero Emissions’ Land Use Plan, a plan to take Australia’s land use and agriculture emissions beyond zero, and works pro bono with NGO World Preservation Foundation, focusing on deforestation, land degradation and biodiversity loss, and is on the Zero Emissions Byron Land Use Advisory Panel and is a Director of Replant Byron. He is co-author of the book accompanying the documentary Eating Our Way To Extinction.
Dr. William J. Ripple is a distinguished professor of ecology at Oregon State University. He has published nearly 200 scientific articles and was lead author on the 2019 paper “World Scientists’ Warning of a Climate Emergency” which is one of the highest impact scientific papers of recent times. This paper, which declares a climate emergency for planet Earth has been endorsed by more than 13,000 scientists from 156 countries. Dr. Ripple is the director of the Alliance of World Scientists, which has 25,000 scientist members from around the world. The main goal of the Alliance of World Scientists is to be a collective international voice of many scientists regarding global climate and environmental trends and to turn accumulated knowledge into action.
J. Morris Hicks
Engineer, process improvement consultant and career business executive—J. Morris Hicks has always focused on the “big picture” when analyzing any issue. In 2002, after becoming curious about the “optimal diet” for humans, he began a comprehensive study of what we eat from a global perspective—discovering many startling issues and opportunities along the way. By far, the most troublesome issue—and opportunity—pertain to the grossly unsustainable way we are living in the highly industrialized nations of the world. Knowing the crucial importance of our food choices when it comes to sustainable living, he published his first book, Healthy Eating, Healthy World, in 2011.
In recent years, he has devised an uplifting way of writing and speaking about all of the troubling issues we face—by envisioning how we might totally reinvent the way we live on this planet, such that we can co-exist indefinitely in a virtual paradise with nature. He documents that idea in his third book, OUTCRY, Urgent Alarms from Our Planet and What We Can Do About Them—published in April of 2020—on the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. To be sure, the new vision and overall message in his latest book, have become major elements of his never-ending mission to promote health, hope and harmony on planet Earth.
