getting WFPB on a cruise ship

Postby bicycledebbie » Fri Sep 29, 2023 3:12 pm

I will be going on a cruise to Alaska soon and am wondering how to make sure I get vegan food that is low fat. I'm cruising on Norwegian. They say they do not have a specific vegan menu. What should I do and who should I talk to. I called Norwegian and they were not very helpful. They just told me to go look at the menus for each restaurant. I did that and there is nothing vegan. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi,

I am going on a cruise shortly and have been gathering information here to determine how best to successfully eat compliant.

Above link is a write up from Stacy (McD Support Specialist) on how she and her husband were able to eat McD on their cruise.

https://www.drmcdougallforums.com/viewt ... se#p634276

Above link is to suggestions from Wildgoose (MWL moderator) on how to do this successfully. I am following MWL program and planning to do that as closely as possible on the cruise as well. If you also read a couple of posts down, Mark (MWL moderator) also has feedback on how he would approach this.

It sounds like you didn't have a great interaction with the person from the cruise line you talked to. Would suggest that you try again and get (hopefully) a more helpful person. Can communicate to them that you have special dietary requirements that are doctor's orders.

I am planning to bring some food with me just in case (note it should be in original packaging) --- Dr. McD soup cups, oatmeal, Bob's Red Mill flaked potatoes, beans. It should be easy to get fresh fruit and raw salad veggies.

Hope that you have a fantastic cruise!

Stephanie

Never been on a cruise, but I know Esther Loveridge has been on plenty of them with her husband.

This is her first video on a cruise ship which came out in 2017.

I have had excellent experiences on my Princess Cruises. One was to Alaska and the other was a Panama Canal trip. Both times I met with the Head Waiter and explained my requirements and was treated to excellent support for both trips at every meal.
I even had our Turkish head waiter on the Alaska trip personally make us special vegan Turkish meals several times. They would meet with us at our evening meal and plan out the next days meals, making sure we always had choices. They even personally took us to the pizza restaurant and went over our requirements with the cooks to make sure all was satisfactory to us and that there were plenty of veggies available for our pizza.
Great experiences and over the top service.
Doing a Canary Island cruise nest week and I'll report back after we return.

I have been a Disney cruise a while back before I started eating this way. But I found that there were always choices on buffets.
And a big percentage of the wait staff was from India and they ate mostly vegetarian food. Most Indian dishes can be easily made vegan and if you ask the wait staff they will just make more for you as they cook our themselves.
