Gallbladder issues

Postby cuddles » Tue Aug 16, 2022 7:13 pm

Has anyone on this board had success avoiding gallbladder surgery by eating the McDougall way of eating? I have had gall stones for several years and ended up with a gallbladder attack several weeks ago. The surgeon is suggesting doing surgery because no one can stick to a low fat way of eating long term. I was told by the surgeon that I have a 50% chance that he might not be able to do laparoscopic surgery due to four prior abdominal surgeries. I was wondering if anyone has had success on avoiding surgery with a change of diet to a low fat diet.

As ever, Dr McDougall has written some newsletter and web articles on this, in case you're not aware:

https://www.drmcdougall.com/articles/co ... r-disease/

https://www.drmcdougall.com/misc/2002nl ... stones.htm

https://www.drmcdougall.com/misc/2002nl ... ladder.htm

I'd be curious as to how you first developed these, if you know - but if four prior abdominal surgeries, you've obviously had some serious issues, and sorry to hear on that.

That comment though, that "no one can stick to a low fat way of eating long term" - if that's how that surgeon talks, I'd think about limiting their input to surgical opinions only, if that's the way they think about their patients (or themselves). Sounds like could be another surgeon addicted to the SAD diet way?, but maybe you can update us on this.

Best, for whatever you may decide.

I had such intense, frequent pain that I had to have my gallbladder removed. I could not function. I was not, however, eating correctly at that time. I do think if you are not having frequent attacks, and can bear it, definitely do the McDougall solution first!!! Either way, you will be adopting, or continuing, a low-fat diet (or suffering).
