NEJM Screening Mammograms II

H. Glibert Welch, MD – Publishes large study showing mammography does more harm than good in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Dr. Welch has been a very popular speaker at the McDougall Advanced Study Weekends. (Not just once, but twice).

The treatment benefits that Dr. Welch notes on several occasions in his video, causing a breast cancer mortality decline by about a third since 1990, are largely (if not exclusively) due to the reduction of the cancer promoting affects of hormones produced by the ovaries. This is accomplished in 3 ways: 1) The ovaries are surgically removed 2) The effects of the ovary’s hormones are blocked by medications (tamoxifen and aromatase inhibitors) 3) By chemically castrating a woman with commonly prescribed chemotherapy. Surgery and/or radiation have little to no benefit on breast cancer survival. October is breast cancer “awareness” or “industry” month. You will find the research I published on this subject in a chapter in my “McDougall’s Medicine” book.
