I don't know if this is helpful or not, but when I make waffles, they always appear as if they might be stuck to the iron. They don't lift easily. I have to give them a bit of a pull with a fork and then they pop right off.
It also helps to wait a minute after opening the waffle iron. I think the steam from the hot waffle helps to loosen it.
