Black eyed peas Instant Pot

Postby Plumerias » Mon Dec 31, 2018 3:09 pm

Well, nothing like leaving it until the last minute....... I've just sorted my black eyed peas to soak at bedtime, and realize that, as I've not done these from dried before, I don't know how long to cook them in the morning. So gang, how long in the Instant Pot please? And yes, in accordance with (adopted) southern traditions, there will also be a cabbage dish to accompany them. Both Indian of course.

Thanks Lyndzie.

Okay, FWIW, we cooked them for one minute, NPR, and they were lovely. And DH, expressing the view that the recipe I'd chosen was boring, did the cooking. Can't beat that!

I should have mentioned, I cook mine from dried, no soaking. I put the whole pound bag in, a bag of frozen trinity, and 6 cups water. So glad they worked out for you!

Okay, that explains the difference then! We were so confused, as we cook chickpeas, intended for hummus, for 20 minutes, and BEPs are so much smaller. But I'll have to keep that in mind, as sometimes I'm not so good at remembering to soak the beans.

Frozen trinity?

Trinity, aka Cajun mirepoix - diced onions, bell pepper and celery. Life has been so easy since I found the freezer blends!

I always cook my beans from dried, no soaking. I just never plan far enough ahead!
