Rice cakes - I am doubtin' them

Postby Riva » Mon May 26, 2008 10:20 pm

Dear Jeff,
I thought rice cakes would save me - as an ER food and a good snack. However they seemed to have insinuated themselves into my life more as a staple. Plus, I must admit I started putting fruit jelly on them. I eat the Lundberg Honey Nut. It has:

whole grain brown rice
Evaporated cane juice syrup
natural flavor
honey
natural honey flavor
Sea salt

Total fat .5
sodium 5mg
Potassium 75mg
Total Carbs 18g
Dietary fiber 1g
Sugars 2g
Protein 2g

80 calories per cake
1 service is one cake

I can see (through the fog of my fooling myself and wishful thinking and sugar desire) that 1 a day for a snack would be fine and use as ER food would be fine but the 6 a day as a routineI have worked my way up to is NOT fine, not mcdougall , not a whole un processed food and is stupid.

Furthermore there are other rice cakes that have much less sweet stuff.\
No Question - just wanted to share my nutritional thoughts here.

Riva,
Take a look at Nettie's responses under 'down 140 pounds' in Testimony and Success. She uses a key term in her most recent posts: 'real food' which is increasingly important, I think.

Thanks.

This prior discussion on rice cakes (and popcorn) goes right along with the points you raised
