Calories in starch

Postby JOJO1947 » Wed Jul 05, 2023 8:21 am

Could you please tell me what Dr. McDougall means when he says there is 1 calorie for every gram of starch. I thought it was 4.

In the December 2011 Newsletter, McDougall writes
"Appetite satisfaction begins with physically filling the stomach. Compared to cheese (four calories per gram), meat (four calories per gram), and oils (nine calories per gram), starches (at only one calorie per gram) are very calorie dilute."

Thanks, JoAnn
