Snow White and the Starch Man

Postby Snow White » Tue Jul 05, 2016 11:34 am

Sorry for the headline but I really had to choose it. :D

Hi all,

I'm quite new to this forum and also to this way of eating. I'm doing this for almost 3 weeks now and still feel insecure about some things like eating right, maybe eating too much and how to support my weight loss with exercises.

Since I want this to be my journal where I can share my thoughts, food report and hopefully my weight loss with you, I will only link my introductory and first steps here:

Hi to the forum
Is it really that easy?
Snow White looking for some exercises

I'm planning weight updates weekly so that I can see if I am on the right way or not.
There will be some pics as possible. Please feel free to read along, to leave a comment or to give an advice.
I'm still learning and will be glad about every companion and supporter.

Yours,
Snow

Thank you, geo :) Yes I know it's quite simple, but this is just to get more familiar with the "new food" and because I have a little baby boy who just experienced how to walk. So usually I don't have that much time and choose something which is prepared and served quickly. :)

I'll start my report for today and will add the following foods later.

Breakfast
70g oats prepared to oat meal
65g defrosted strawberries on top

Image

Lunch
75g Quinoa
100g Spinach (added grated nutmeg)

Image

Dinner
65g lettuce
200g tomatoes
100g mini bell peppers
(made a dressing of water and italian spices)
500g baked potatoes (added garlic powder, black pepper, paprika powder)

Image

Drinks
1 cup of coffee
1l filtered tap water
2 cups of white tea
2 cups of rooibos tea

My basic information from Tuesday were actual my dates from Monday morning.
Though I planned to weigh myself only once a week, I wanted to check the scale today.
So I can proudly announce

Basic information
Height: 5"6 (1,68 m)
Weight: 229 lbs (was 230)
Fat in %: 49.2 (was 50)
Muscle in %: 23 (was 21)

After I gave birth to my son last year I lost 66 lbs, gained some pounds, lost some pounds and gained again. But I never got under 230 lbs - for months. And then today I see this 229 on the scale and felt like I have lost 100 pounds. :D I totally cannot describe what I am feeling at the moment. This number, my 230 lbs, seemed so unscalable for me and now it's "gone". I still must lose a lot of weight, of course, but this 229 lbs totally made my day.

Let's start today's food report.

Breakfast
70g oats prepared to oat meal
60g tangerines
1tsp maple sirup

Image

Lunch
Cooked 75g of Basmati rice and 200g canned mashed beans. I stuffed 500g of bell peppers (=3 pieces) with it, but still have
one pepper and some rice with beans over. So I cannot tell the real amounts of my lunch. :o

Image

Dinner
Dinner was exactly the same as yesterday. Couldn't make a pic because my phone had to charge

Drinks
2 cups of coffee
1l filtered tap water
2 cups white tea
4 cups rooibos tea

I'm totally disappointed at my husband's family.
They invited us to a barbecue and I was looking for recipes which could meet their taste since we usually all bring something when we are invited.

I made hummus, a couscous salad and prepared a paste for baguette slices.
NOBODY was willing to eat any of what I brought. :(
My mother in law said "No, thanks. It's vegan. I don't like vegan food."
I asked her what she has eaten or tasted before, she just didn't reply.
My sister in law kept her husband from my food away "Darling, you don't want to eat this. This is food for our food."
My father on law only said he doesn't know these things and because of that he won't eat it.
They all only asked me if "this vegan thing" was only a cure or if I am planning to do this permanently from now on.
My mother in law was only shocked because of the christmas dinner.
"What will my mother say when you bring your own food? Oh my god, I really don't want to imagine..."

I felt like a total fool. :(
I've spent hours with preparing the food for all yesterday evening and then I took almost everything home again :crybaby:

Basic information
Height: 5"6 (1,68 m)
Weight: 224 lbs (was 230)
Fat in %: 49 (was 50)
Muscle in %: 23,8 (was 21)

Above my information after this week.
This really encourages me to go on, even if the barbecue yesterday was so frustrating.

Hi Snow,

Welcome to the land of McDougalling. You are in the right place to find support (and vent your frustration). I feel your emotion after reading about your family barbecue experience. Not only are you new to this way of eating; everyone you have shared food with in the past is new to this way of eating too. The difference is that you are choosing to take charge of your health and sometimes that makes people feel judged. All you can do is lead by quiet example. Stay strong because you know this is the right thing to do. You are seeing results and your family will see them too. Your family will find it hard to dispute your food choices as you get healthier and healthier.

I think any long time McDougaller has gone through the same experience you have. I know each and every one of us could share a similar story that played out exactly as your family barbecue did. I have an earlier journal here in the forum that is filled with mother-in-law stories.

Hmm, let me think. There was the potato salad gauntlet during the family camping trip. Then there were all the Christmas’ and Thanksgivings where the food I brought to contribute got set off the table to the far corners of the kitchen. Let’s see, there were numerous huge sacrificial salads that I made, transported to, transported back home and eventually had to compost. I thought it might save me time to make the salad and throw it on the compost immediately to save some extra steps.

I eventually learned that if I want to eat well, I bring enough healthy food to feed me and my husband. I no longer expect that there will be any healthy food I can eat at any given gathering. I do not make the visit revolve around food. We can share time but we don’t necessarily have to share food.

As I have become more radiant with health, no one disputes that the food I choose to eat is wrong. While some discuss the latest medication they are taking, I am talking about signing up for my first Spartan sprint. I have never felt stronger or healthier in my life. It is all about the food.

Once you lose the cravings for the processed foods laden in salt, oil and sugar, you will find that the whole foods and starches are what you crave and you will no longer feel foolish or even need to furnish an explanation. You bring your food. You put the time and effort into this for you and if anyone wants to venture a taste, bonus! You will build your confidence as you continue down this path. Be strong! It is so worth the journey.

It’s good to meet you. I enjoy your food photos! I would eat your food and love it!
