8 Month's and results.

Postby bhagler » Tue Apr 11, 2017 9:28 am

I started a Plant Based eating regime, in August. I was over weight, had quit exercising for the most part and I have been a Type 1 Diabetic for 33 years.

By January, I had lost almost 50 pounds, cut my Insulin intake by half and cut back on a few medications.

Today, after meeting with my Endocrinologist, here my Lipid Panel:
Cholesterol-109
Triglycerides- 74
HDL-40
NON HDL-69
LDL-54
I am somewhat disappointed at my HDL, as I have been exercising on a regular basis. I am very happy that I can quit taking my Statin, which I've been on for 12+ years.

I will report back in another 3 months; excited to see my numbers improve as I step up my exercise regime.

HDL is a fraction of total cholesterol.

When total goes down then so do all the fractions.

Thus, HDL is an unreliable risk factor when comparing people (including large populations) who eat differently. Worldwide, those with the lowest HDLs, have the lowest death rates from heart disease and also the lowest total cholesterol levels.

Congratulations on your results. I hope your physician showed an appropriate enthusiastic response.
