The real title should be "No More Chin Hair and Stinky Pits!"
Not to mention no more painful joints, including knees, feet and shoulders.
I am so grateful that I tried this diet again. My first attempt was flawed and resulted in hypoglycemic fits (I didn't eat enough starch, duh). I'm now down 35 pounds and have my peace of mind back. YouTube is a GODSEND! That's where I first saw the video that changed my life - Dr. McDougall talking about how it's the food and how it's NOT my fault, or some sort of mental defect.
I was so depressed, it's amazing that I kept trying to find an answer. I'd bought Dr. M's books a few years back and had kept them. I gradually was able to eat fewer and fewer foods. I first got a massive allergic reaction to duck eggs (psoriasis and eczema on my hands, feet and scalp). I'd known for quite a while that dairy gave me huge joint pains and pimples, but was now unable to eat coconut (odd rashes on my face); soy in any form (joint pains and pimples); nuts (arginine is not my friend); and the list continued.
I remember sitting at my laptop on a Saturday morning and wondering what the heck do I do now. I'd tried literally EVERY diet imaginable and either couldn't lose weight or felt worse or my depression worsened or all of the above. And allopathic advice just made things worse - it is truly amazing the power of the financial corruption from big pharmacy. I clicked on YouTube and saw a link to a new McDougall video. And it dawned on me - I basically was following that diet. But had missed the point of starches being the magic ingredient. Cue heavens parting and angelic trumpets sounding.
From moment one, I felt better. And better. I then explored Esselstyn and Campbell. And kept feeling better. I'm now at a weight I thought I'd never see again - about what I weighed in high school - and I've got energy, but only if I eat to plan. If I forget or get lazy, my depression comes roaring back. But finding meals I love (thank you Mary for your genius!!) I've noticed lately my hair is growing back in darker (fewer gray hairs); now more chin hairs (really) and my mustache is fainter. I've switched to deodorant, and really don't need it as much as when I first started the diet in late March 2016 (it's now 6 months later).
My last bugaboo has been pimples. I thought some foods were still triggering my breakouts. But I believe I just have that gene that creates a hyper reaction to that bacteria. So I'm using some OTC solutions, and trying blue light therapy with essential oils and it's working for me.
I'm 57 and, unlike my colleagues, take no prescription drugs. I do take some herbs and B12 but it's no big deal.
Thank you for my health!
