Trying the Starch Solution for Arthritis ?

Postby Bask » Mon Aug 22, 2016 8:13 pm

Hello,
I have used the Starch Solution in the past. following the diet about 75 -80% of the time with good results.
Recently I was diagnosed with Degenerative Disc Disease, and Cervical Spondylitis.
I had watched Dr. McDougall speak about good results for arthritis with the Starch Solution.
I decided to commit to following the diet 100% of the time, to see what would happen.
I have been on the diet for only 21 days and I am having excellent results.
I have lost 10 lbs. and I have much less pain, along with less numbness and burning feeling in my hands and feet.
I realize that my condition will never go away, but I have to say with these results am a 100% McDougaller
from now on.
This is changing my life, I really am very grateful.
Thank you for being in my corner Dr. McDougall !
I will update as time passes, Thanks for reading,
Take Care,
Bask :)

Hello, Bask

I just came across your post and am curious to hear how you are getting along. Recently I was volunteering at a food related event and a number of people spoke with me about their arthritis (and other ailments). I was happy to be able to recommend Dr McDougall's books and website.

I wanted to chime in here because I started a thread called, "Pain," and now I cannot find it. I have had 2 neck fusions and I had constant neck pain. I lost my career, my job, stopped driving, stopped exercising, mostly sat around. I had a lot of trouble sitting in front of my sewing machine, and sitting and playing my guitar. I could hardly clean my house, and my husband had to take over anything that involved mopping, vacuuming, or scrubbing. I was very skeptical that this WOE would help with my neck, because no one knew why it hurt, but I felt that if it helped the rest of me feel better, that would give me less to deal with. I started 2 weeks before Xmas, altho I already had stopped eating meat, and ate very little animal products. I have to add that over the years, I went to lots of doctors and specialists. I ended up in pain management which was a nightmare for me. The drugs made me a crying, crazy person, the doctors acted like I was a felon. I hated every minute of it. I was tortured with needles, tests, injections, and PT which did not help. If I refused, I was a "fail." I ended up being terrified of doctors' visits, like PTSD.

So now it has been about 11 weeks. I cannot tell you how much better I feel. (BTW, I am 62.) I am full of energy. I can take a brisk walk for an hour. I take way fewer pain pills. In fact, I haven't had one in 4 days. Don't need those muscle relaxants anymore or those anti-inflammatories either. My neck still gives me pain, but only if I overdo. I am getting better and better. I am able to do more, including going to my grandkids games, something I had to pass up before. I have lost about 18 pounds so far, and I am going to keep going. I have not gotten sick once so far this winter, not even a cold. My daughter, her husband, and my granddaughter, have been sick constantly. They are sick now again. My son and daughter-in-law have been sick. Yet they have no plans on improving their diets. They just keep going the way they are going. I have much less stomach trouble, and I am so grateful for the great healthy, energetic feeling I have now. I am presently trying to decide what kind of water system to get to make sure I am drinking clean, pure water. I could never go back. So, I am assuming that the pain in my neck is due to arthritis and this WOE is helping a lot.

Doing an Advanced Search on authors by your name, with the word pain in the topic title brings up:

Bask and petmomful,

Thank you for your stories, they are inspiring. I am also having trouble with back pain, so your experiences give me hope.

I just wanted to put an update: My neck pain is virtually gone. I just bought a recumbant trike and I ride around the neighborhood, as well as walk and jog. I was very skeptical, but this diet really really really helped the arthritis in my neck. I encourage anyone with arthritis to hang in there and it will slowly improve over time. I am getting my life back!!
