First test results on plant based diet.

Postby sjsilver » Thu Mar 06, 2014 7:48 pm

I was anxiously awaiting my doctor's appointment, to discuss the test results from my blood work. Everything was in the normal range, even protein was in the normal range. Protein was 6.7 (range 6.0 - 8.2) :D I will include my test results from 2011, 2012 and today. My cholesterol has never been dangerously high, only elevated. But since there is a family history of high cholesterol, I keep an eye on it.

Numbers are from 2011, 2012 and today.

cholesterol - 245, 221, 168 (range 135-240)
triglyceride - 69,42,88 (range 10-190)
HDL choles. - 61,64,41 (range 32-96)
LDL choles. - 173,150,113 (range 0-130)

In 2012 I had been trying to eat healthier, but was calorie counting. I still had meat, eggs, dairy and oil in my diet. I was able to bring cholesterol down to a certain degree, but nothing compared to the results of a plant based diet.

Thank you. I was excited to get these results. There is still room for improvement, but it's a great start. I was really happy that my doctor is supportive of this lifestyle. He has seen "Forks over knives" and believes that this is the best diet for health.

Great Results!!! I think I read somewhere before, but cannot recall, the reason the triglycerides go up on a plant-based diet? Do they come back down?

Way to go! Can't wait to see more incredible results!

Thank you. My doctor told me that it is normal for triglycerides to go up when you add more starch to the diet. I don't know if they will come back down. Even so, mine are still within a normal range so I am happy with the results.

Your triglycerides will also come down when your weight-loss stabilizes because you will be consuming less of your own body fat.

Congratulations on good results.

My TC is about 130 and trigly. 150. I'm going more MWL, less of the melons and some other small adjustments and I suspect the trigl. to lower. But I'm already way past having major health problems typically associated with these biomarkers, so I'm just trying to optimize things a little bit.

The best on your continued path taking good care of yourself. :)

Cool. Okay, so once I reach the point where my weight is "ideal", my triglycerides should come down, correct?
