Lighter and faster

Postby funcrunch » Thu Sep 20, 2012 7:44 pm

I don't have a really dramatic story to share, but I am happy and proud that I have reduced my waistline and increased my fitness since re-committing to a vegan diet last year.

I thought I had reached my ideal weight about a year ago, when I weighed 125 pounds (BMI: 21.5) with a 32 inch waist (measured at the navel). But increasing my exercise while continuing to eat a lowfat, high-starch vegan diet brought my weight down even further. This week, I weighed in at 119 pounds (BMI: 20.4) with a 27 inch waist.

People are calling me "skinny", I finally met my goal of running a sub-30 minute 5K, and today I somewhat unbelievably fit into size 2 jeans. And all while eating bread, pasta, potatoes, and real sugar, never counting calories, and not feeling hungry or deprived. This is my diet style for life!

Awesome. It has to be very cool being called skinny.

Thanks to everyone for the kudos. Yesterday I felt so invincible that I decided to sign up to run my first marathon! I'll be running the San Francisco Marathon next June :-)

BRILLIANT!!!!! I have been following your blog for years. You are amazing. I admire your style. Can't wait to read about your marathon training and how you will kill the race. Good luck, and thank you for the inspiration. You look completely fabulous, long and lean.

December 2012 update - Re: Lighter and faster

Postby funcrunch » Fri Dec 28, 2012 4:35 pm

De-lurking for a quick update. Still maintaining the lowfat starch-centered diet, 100% vegan other than honey, virtually oil-free at home but more relaxed when dining out (usually not more than 2-3x/week, but lots more rich food from parties this month). Still running, racing, and doing yoga regularly.

Latest weigh-in: 115 lbs (BMI 19.7), waist (at navel) 26.5 in., waist-to-height ratio (which some consider a more useful health indicator than BMI) 41%. Definitely not planning on losing any more weight. Hard enough to find clothes that fit as it is!

Wow you look fantastic Julie.
I needed to see this picture of health and fitness which you embody by following Dr McDougall's programme.
I am new on this journey I am doing MWL and previously I was high fat vegan.
You have inspired me.
Thank you

So fantastic. Looks like you are still losing at a very slow rate. Wow. Most of us can't imagine being "thin enough" and not having to worry about that any more. How many people can say that?

I totally understand the feeling of meeting racing goals! One of life's most exciting and fulfilling events.

(That was too funny about your pants slipping down while racing.)
