Postby healthyME » Sun Oct 26, 2008 12:16 pm

I would like to begin a mary's mini, but use white rice as my starch...

Hmm

White rice is basically nutritionally useless - and without the bran on it, is a simple carb that will quickly elevate your blood sugar and turn into fat. If it is the taste of brown rice that you don't like, try basmati brown rice. It has a sweet, slightly nutty taste that you might like. I think your body will like the result better.

Good luck.

Postby healthyME » Sun Oct 26, 2008 2:36 pm

I bit the bullet and ordered some brown rice to be shipped to me. There just aren't any good deals around here. I also ordered the wheat bran I will need so I'm set to go...

Thank you. I'm sure I will. I have always liked brown rice, it's just hard to get a good deal and it's only such a small amount. I can rock through some rice going through the Mary's Mini..

So, this will be good.

Boil in bags

Postby Steve » Tue Oct 28, 2008 5:07 am

Have you tried Success Rice Boil in Bags? They have both brown and white rice. A box provides four bags. All you do is drop the bag into boiling water for 10 minutes. We enjoy our rice steamer but it is so easy to use the boil-in bags. The boil in bags are a little pricey but are very convienient.

with rice..

I make rice in my crock pot. I take four cups of rice, and 8 cups of water, and watch the crock pot until it's done. I cook it on low.

That way, I have the rice I need for a few days.

Dr. McDougall talks about rice, particularly white rice here:

Enjoy!

I remember reading this before, but I forgot where I read it from... about the white rice.

Since I've had the wheat bran, I've been doing much better. I will go back and forth on the rice until I use all my white rice.

I have just been enjoying the rice. I'm all stoked because I found a deal on potatoes, too. $4.00 for a ten pound bag.

If you have any ethnic grocery stores, don't be afraid to go in. I personally love brown jasmine. Best price I could get it for was Trader joes, 1 lbs for like $5. My local Thai store sells me 5 lb for $3

my suggesstion to my husband is to mix white and brown until he likes brown. Start with a 1/4 brown and 3/4 white and slowly reduce the white and increase the brown.

I asked Jeff about white rice for my hubby...it is in that forum.
