Glo - I'm sorry to hear about your family member and hope for the best for them. Enjoy your holidays, and I'll add you to our weigh in this week and hope to hear from you next week.

Yomom and Darnold - Yes! I'm so happy for you both. Nothing beats a little weight loss during the holidays.

I'm, unfortunately, up 1 pound for the week (now at 141 lbs). I'm hopeful for much of the same next week, because the next 3 days are full of celebration meals. I ate out 3 times today...quite compliantly I might add. I even watered down the soy sauce in my evening meal to keep to the sodium lower. I'll post those pictures to my journal.

I'll tally up all of the weight loss tomorrow evening, after putting out the oil-free pumpkin bread and chocolate almond milk for Santa!

Hi everyone, I'm down a tad this week to 120.lb down ... .5 lbs! lost :)
Not much, but being as I traveled during the week and not always able to find non oil options it's not bad..I hope to crack the 120 level by next week. Love reading about everyone's plans. My husband and I have a pretty quiet Christmas planned so not so many temptations to deal with.
Sorry to hear your friend has Wegeners too and so young. We were lucky to find a specialist in this condition in Mex city who spent many years teaching at Tuft University. 1 in 2 million chance to get this autoimmune condition!
My husbands condition was caught before any liver or lung damage occurred. The original specialist definitely credits this diet for his speedy recovery, unfortunately he is mostly retired , and we were referred to another specialist for ongoing treatment. He's also very good but doesn't think diet has anything to do with it.He's still taking Methotrexate a reduced amount. He wants hubby to take additional calcium and folic acid supplements, when I tell him that our diet it is full of natural sources of calcium and folates leafy greens, fruits and veggies he just dismisses it. He believes in pills! -so we take it with a grain of salt. Love to pass on Dr Colin Campbells book "Whole" to him but he's just not open to anything.
If you haven't read it ("Whole") I would put it on your Christmas list!
Congrats everyone this week and
Best of the holidays! Dlee

Well, I didn't quite get an official reading under 175. But I did lose to 175.4 or a loss of .8 # over last week. I'm blaming on some popcorn at the movies and then a somewhat oily dinner of veggies at Red Lobster. See you all next week!
I'm just here for the food.

This week's weigh-in was pretty darn good! You all are really showing everyone how to get through the holidays with dignity.
Happy Holidays from my family to yours. Tonight we are battling for world domination! (For those unfamiliar, we are playing the board game Risk; With peanuts, dried mango and pretzels as the booty - very rich items as we McDougallers well know...lol)

This week I am grateful to spend time getting to know the ones I know best even better!

Well done, everybody!

Sirdle- It was fun, and no Siam on our board. I looked up the edition you referred to, and I was amazed at how many different iterations of the game there are.

Dlee - I think our family friend is still in the hospital. He has had a rough go of it. I'm glad they were able to diagnose your husband quickly and you were there to get him on the right track diet wise. I hope you make progress with your new specialist. I read and enjoyed the book Whole, as well. I bet, though, I could read it again and get so much more out of it. Thank you for the recommendation.

I hope everyone here is doing well and has been kind to themselves. I have finished the larger string of festive meals that I attended and now will get back to simpler eating. The biggest difficulty I had was throwing away so much uneaten food. As someone in a Chef AJ lecture said "If it's in your house, it's in your mouth!".

See you all on Friday!

Hi Amanda,

I'm trying to remember how I found mcdougall.... I used to be able to lose weight super easily but a few years back I had a temporary thyroid issue (all normal for the past 2.5 years) and have been struggling with my weight ever since. I tried paleo and some other things and they didn't really work or I couldn't stick to them long enough to work (and have merely been gaining more and more weight with each try over the past 3 years). So, I figured, let's try the other end of the spectrum! So, I read about plant-based diets, and this was the plan that people always said they lost weight on. I had a hard time finding reviews for mcdougalling that were negative. So, here I am. :-D

Honestly, it's been pretty easy this week. The first couple of days were the hardest, because my SO kept offering me all sorts of non-compliant foods because he didn't understand all the rules yet. He understands now. Also, because food is a little bit more bland, I'm not forcing myself past fullness, or eating just out of boredom, so it's easier to listen to my natural hunger and full signals. I'm surprised how quickly my sugar cravings have disappeared! And who doesn't love starch? It was so hard with paleo to eat 6oz of meat or seafood per meal. This time is also different because my mindset had changed. My theme for this coming year is Nourishment in all the different ways that can apply in my life, and that focus has really been helping me so far.

I have lost 4.8lbs this week! Holy cow! My last diet effort took me almost two months to drop that! I already am feeling amazing! :D

Fancyfinch - That's a wonderful theme for the coming year; Nourishment! Congratulations on this week's progress. Be sure to check out all of the resources offered by this website. There is so much valuable information here. For nutritional information, expert summaries on current research and everything you ever wanted to know on Caloric Density, check out Jeff Novick's forum. There are also forums for health issues, family and a lounge for just talking with others who eat this way.
I also particularly like the Education tab for all of Dr McDougall's work - videos, Newsletters, webinars, Mary's recipes...too much to list! It's pretty amazing what Dr McD makes available at no cost.

Dlee - I'd say that no gain is a win here. Great job!

My fickle friend, the scale, gave me a late Christmas gift with a 3 lb loss this week! Woo hoo! I'm now down to 138....oh so close to a three digit loss.

I'm looking forward to hearing from everyone. I hope you all had a fun and relaxing week, or at the very least an uneventful one.
