In summary, this class of drugs is derived from reptile venom and makes you lose weight by making you feel nauseous.

Furthermore, the patients in the studies who lost weight were also told to reduce calorie intake by 500 calories per day, so it's unclear how much of the weight loss was due to the drugs.

And finally, these drugs cost a fortune.

If you follow Dr McDougall's principles, your treatment will be diet, not drugs. If you look at Dr McDougall's opinions on drugs and supplements, it's probably fair to say buyer beware, and get a challenging second opinion from a independent professional that puts your interests first.

Thanks, openmind, I came here to post about this very article.

It is one of the most tragic aspects of our modern times that people are taking these expensive and potentially very dangerous drugs when they instead could adopt a WFPB diet and achieve the same or better results at a fraction of the cost and with no negative side effects. Some days when I read the headlines, I just want to scream!

I feel the same way about bariatric surgery. I'm sure many of you read the recent headlines describing how Lisa Marie Presley, the actress and widow of Elvis Presley, died from complications of bariatric surgery. Sometimes I think that what is going on in our Western nations with regard to diet and health is borderline madness.
