What is your resting heart rate and BP please?

Postby Poison Ivy » Sun Sep 25, 2016 6:42 pm

Can you please post your resting heart rate and blood pressure? Do you exercise and how much? Is a too fast or too slow RHR something to be overly concerned about?

Since I am eating healthy, I am not concerned about heart rate and blood pressure. I use my time for cooking, eating and exercise instead of monitoring my health.

BP = 102/58 last measured couple weeks ago

RHR = 42-43 but that is not really full rest, just sitting around reading. Measured by Polar monitor

121/72 - 55bpm.
54 year old male, 6'1" 165lbs.
Only been McDougalling for a few weeks and my 'exercise' is a 30 minute walk on dry mornings. Getting cooler, dark and wet here in the UK now though.

Been measuring my BP since I started this woe 6 years ago and keep my readings in a spreadsheet. My averages over 6 years are:

112/72, 62 bpm
58 yr old man, 5'11", 150 lbs.

Prior to woe, my BP was 140/90, don't remeber my bpm but I think in the 70s.

Ps. I have white coat syndrome (high BP at doctors office) so that's why I keep track for myself.

BP currently averages 120/72 which has gone up over the last few weeks from 108/68 but no idea why.

RHR - 54-58 which I thought was rather slow but looking at others on this thread I see its pretty normal.

My RHR is around 60, BP is about 110/60. I don't have a history of high blood pressure or heart disease so I don't really follow these. I check my RHR occasionally with my wrist watch and only know my BP from from when I've needed to visit the doctor.

I'm 58 year old man, 5'7", 135lbs and have been eating vegan for 6 years, McDougall for 4 1/2 years. In early 2010 I weighed close to 180 and this is the thinnest I have ever been in my life.

In the winter I alternate cardio and weights at the gym. In the summer, I still do the weights but stop the cardio. I do a whole lot of gardening and work outside in the summer and it's harder to find time for the cardio. Will start back up in a couple weeks.

Thanks to all who replied.

@GeoffreyLevens, what kind of exercise do you do, how long, what intensity? Just walking around the house with your heart rate monitor on, what does your heart rate go up to? I guess what I am asking is have you observed what it is wearing the monitor when you are just up walking around, not sitting still but not exercising either. What is your age, height, weight, and sex if you don't mind sharing?

@kirkj, when you were heavier, were your HR and BP different from what they are now?

@dailycarbs, what was your weight prior to this WOE? Do you exercise? If yes, can you elaborate on the exercise that you do please?

Poison Ivy, sorry should have included that in my post above. I am male 66 years old, eating SS for about 7 years.

I work out every day for about an hour. On alternate days I do HIIT with kettlebells and more of an LSD conditioning thing on an indoor rowing machine.

Just sort of ambling around the house, putting on monitor etc my HR is around 55. I should add that since I started with the conditioning training which I have not done in years, my HRH has dropped by about 8 bpm

I did a poll/post on resting heart rates: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=52161&p=534280&hilit=heart+rate#p534280 where the poll shows that as a group we have and average rhr in the 50 to 60 bpm range.

I have one of the lowest rhr on this board which I have measured below 40 bpm (38-40 range). Aerobic exercise keeps it low as it increases heart efficiency.

Wow, you are really in peak physical condition Skip. Thanks so much for the link. What to you do for exercise? How often do you do it? I am going to read the link you posted.

Thanks also for the feedback Geoffrey. Seeing ppl healthy like this, esp as they age, is really inspirational.

40 y/o male
5' 6.5"
120 lbs
19.1 BMI
RHR was as low as 35 when I last tested properly, years ago
BP is between 110/70 and 100/60, but that is when tested in the Doctor's office, which is not proper. Probably always around 100/60 done properly.

Been eating this way for about 9 years now.

Also, I do a lot of walking, some light jogging and elliptical work. I have great cardio/lung strength.

I think you'll get a biased sample here of low BPs and RHRs.

That's Dr McDougall's plan I think :) Quite reaffirming and encouraging to see it though... something to keep in mind when "temptation" looms
