neighborhood oyster roast

Postby LauraA » Wed Oct 19, 2011 3:49 pm

Me, to a neighbor, "why don't we sit together at the oyster roast?"
Her, "Sure, I just love oysters."
Me, "I don't eat animal products, but I still thought it would be fun to go. I know that there will be some salads and veggies."
Her, " Oh, you'll have plenty to eat, there will be mac and cheese!"
Take care, LauraA

Just like the old, "I'm a vegatarian"

Their response, "Do you eat fish?"

Sigh.

I had to field that one for my mom this weekend. Several local family members got together and went out to eat when an aunt and uncle came in from out of town. It was the first time any of them had seen my mom since she started the program a month ago and it was obvious how much better she looked and felt. Some were quizzing me out of her earshot and that was one of the questions when I said she was eating a whole foods vegetarian diet with no animal products or oil.

I had to laugh. At least everyone was supportive. Hard to be otherwise when they saw such a difference.

Answer: "No, but I am also a humanitarian. I eat people."

I have a great one~

went to Applebee's several weeks ago, now, I know that it isn't vegan-friendly, but it was the family's choice, so I politely informed the waitress that I was vegan and that I didn't eat any meat or dairy products. I knew I could get a plain potato or a salad and asked if she knew of anything else that maybe I could have.....
she said I could order the chili cheese fries.....

????!!!! at first I thought she was joking, or being sarcastic...... unfortunately she was serious.

it all went downhill from there!!

You know a cornerstone of a healthy vegatarian diet is chili cheese fries.

Many times I have gone places with family and it was less-than vegatarian friendly.

Oh brother! I can't really blame her though. Todays "vegetarian" meals are full of dairy and eggs. I have to explicitly search for vegan recipients or I know it will just be a cheese dish with a little something extra added in. People are just getting confused now.
