Wow, they really want to crush the less than 5% vegetarians in that country!

On a side note, I find it ironic that while reading that article, I couldn't help but be distracted by the ads displaying a meat and cheese pizza and mayonnaise :duh:

I would bet that this is the work of the very powerful, subsidized, politically connected farm pressure groups in France.

It is disgusting from any angle, of course.

A decree has just been published making compulsory rules for the composition of meals in all public and private school catering. These rules force six millions of children of school age to eat meat, fish, dairy products and eggs.

Don't we have the same thing here already with the school lunch programs and WIC?

My wife and I took an anniversary trip to France in 2009. I wasn't following the McDougall program then but we were lacto-ovo vegetarians.

In Paris we stayed in the Marais area which had a few places we could get a vegetarian meal - there were some Italian and even Indian restaurants in this area. Also there were a couple of vegetarian only restaurants in Paris. The best one we went to was La saveurs veget'halles.

In general though, it was very very hard to get a vegetarian meal in France let alone a vegan one. We were shocked how heavily meat oriented everything was. Seemed like they love Jambon (ham) there. It was hard to get anything without it added in. Even in the pizza resaurant in the marais district I had to fight to get an eggplant dish without ham.

Well there is always hope. I listened to this podcast from a few weeks ago on goveganradio.com

Here's the description of the podcast

From France, guest FLORENCE LIBERT discusses the international campaign to abolish meat, which has its roots in France -
www.meat-abolition.org. What would abolishing meat mean
"There are a thousand hacking at the branches of evil to one who is striking at the root." Henry David Thoreau
