Ruby - TV show about a woman's weight loss journey

I posted earlier this year about the television show Ruby , about a beautiful, inspiring woman from Savannah, Georgia who weighed nearly 500 pounds. The second season just started this week; she has lost 100 pounds but had a setback as her father passed away. As I don't have cable TV I bought a seas...

I use Almond Breeze vanilla unsweetened most of the time now. Even though the percentage of calories from fat is higher than the Soy Dream vanilla I used to use, the total calories are much lower - 40 vs 120. The Blue Diamond web site has ingredients and nutritional information . (I do still use Tra...

I was going to go see it tonight with some local McDougallers from this board, but am too busy :-( I hope they will post later to let us know how it was.

Good story. Whenever I hear of "fat activists" defending their girth, I think about how few fat elderly people one sees. May sound harsh but it's simple truth. Eat healthy now and live a long healthy life!

A good chuckle

A friend whose girlfriend is vegan and is considering going veg himself just posted this comic to his Facebook profile. Good for a chuckle. :D

Here's my perspective on compliance, for what it's worth. The beauty of the McDougall Program as outlined in his books is that it is simple - no counting calories or points or grams of anything - and removes temptation . If you don't have animal products in your kitchen then you're not going to eat ...

Thanks for the advice. I will definitely use the gels on runs prior to the actual race. When I did runs of this length years ago I used Clif Shots with success; they might have changed the formula since then though.

(And we have banned Earth Balance from the house!) Just curious, when you did have Earth Balance how long would it take 2 of you to finish one 15oz tub? My last one was 105 days for just me, then I forgot to get it and went a week without it. I expect a tub to last me from 100 to 120 days.... Yeah ...

Karen and I have discussed this with her son who is trained as a chef and has worked in restaurants. He said to us, very clearly, "You cannot trust restaurant food. They will tell you what you want to hear and then fix the food the way that is most convenient and habitual for them, with oil, w...

We are 100% vegan at home (other than occasional honey) and generally cook without oil, but when we go out we occasionally indulge in items that contain dairy, eggs, and oil. Animal flesh is never on the menu as I have not eaten it in 17 years and don't even consider it food at this point. But since...

According to the Jeff Galloway program I follow ( http://www.jeffgalloway.com/ ) you should take walk breaks from the very beginning; if you wait until you start to get tired, it's too late. I've experimented with different ratios and found that 9/1 works the best for me. When I very first started r...

So thats my take. I've been a runner since the early 60's (when I wasn't cycling) but I've never found it necessary to run any longer than 5 miles. I'd say for 98% of people, running further than that is counter productive. Not something folks will continue for life. Despite the fact that I'm curre...
