My family has been plant based since January 1st. During this time my son and husband had come down with terrible rashes that were unexplained and getting worse. Well it turns out they both have nickel allergies and this rash has been caused by the plant based diet and it is known that a nickel allergy diet is not in line with a plant based diet, as they cannot have:
Whole wheat bread, multi grain breads, multi grain cereals, wheat bran, wheat germ, whole wheat pasta, oats, oatmeal, buckwheat, seeds, rye, millet, Beans, lentils, peas, soy products (tofu, soy sauce, soy beans) sprouts, brussel sprouts, asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, canned vegetables, red kidney beans, chickpeas, cabbage, corn, mushrooms, onions, carrots, canned fruit cocktail, pears, bananas, canned fruits, tomatoes, raisins, rhubarb, dried fruit, tea, beer, red wine, Chocolate and cocoa powder (especially dark chocolate), All nuts (walnuts, peanuts, almonds, hazelnuts, soy nuts), All seeds (sunflower seeds, linseed)
Canned foods in general.
Things that improve the condition are taking vitamin C with meals and eating a high iron diet.
I have been so happy with our plant based diet and I am honestly feeling a little devastated right now. We've been saving money, animal life, waste and I don't have the nickel allergy and I have been feeling better than I have in years on the plant based diet. I am looking for anyone who has any information or experience with nickel allergies and plant based diet for information and/or support.
Thank you.
