Yeah, I mentioned them a while back! But they are worth mentioning again!
I also added that some of them contain oil and need to be modified a tiny bit to be McDougall-legal -- but that modifying them should be easy.
The recipe on there that really hit me was the one for Hard Tack. It is JUST flour and water and baked until bone dry. It is supposed to keep indefinitely. However, it uses REFINED WHITE flour (not whole grain flour -- the germ of whole grain flour would probably go rancid after a while) so it is not totally McD-legal. BUT, its simplicity struck me. Years ago, soldiers used to almost LIVE soley on hard tack -- a VEGAN food! Interesting!
Happy McDougalling!

I believe we McDougallers can have a loud enough voice to influence enough people to cut back on livestock consumption/farming that we CAN have a positive impact on global warming -- if we REALLY try!

I always thought it was sailors (maybe it was soldiers too) who used to live on hardtack, as in "hardtack and swill (beer)"! Arrgghh, matey!

afreespirit, I just checked Wikipedia. Both sailors and soldiers used hard tack -- but it was probably used mostly by sailors.
So, I stand corrected!
Thanks!

I had no idea about what made hardtack. Do know it never appealed as a steady diet. The English sailors carried limes along to prevent scurvey, hence the nick name Limeys.
Also the link to sailors vs. soldiers.
Glad my son in the Army has better fare, at least I hope he does
