Went into our library system and found 1000 Vegan Recipes and several more of Robin Robertsons books. Have requested 5 or 6 of them, can hardly wait, ..... too bad there's a waiting list, I'm #8 for 1000 Recipes.
It's just me.

Nice balance of flavours - I find a lot of Moroccan-style recipes are too sweet, but this one was not. Lovely aroma and appearance - plenty of admiring comments at work lunch table.
Makes a huge quantity - half the recipe yields 1200g (more than 2&1/2 lbs). I found a 400g serve was just right for me with some barley and greens.

I made this today, page 334. I used water as opposed to broth, doubled the spices, and needed some more water once the chickpeas and peas were added toward the end. I did NOT let it sit until the next day like the recipe says. Excuse me, I'm doing all this chopping and smelling it and I'm supposed to be patient and put it aside until tomorrow? Nah, don't think so! There's not much of it left, as my husband was extra hungry today. In keeping with tradition, I served it over (whole wheat) couscous.

The recipe calls for green olives. Not wanting to have the remainder of the jar needing precious space in the fridge or calling our names, I opted for buying just enough for the recipe from the deli. It worked out well, and was acceptably priced. I also didn't add any additional salt, as the olives supplied plenty.

Now I'm staring at some of the Asian noodle dishes.

Nice review, Plumerias! I'm getting closer to moving this dish up on my list! :)

Becky - thanks so much for reviewing these recipes on your blog. I went there and spent the last couple of hours reading EVERYTHING! (We are traveling for the holidays, and hubby is still in bed... I am enjoying my morning beverage and appreciating the wonders of wi-fi.)

I have this book but have not cooked out of it yet. It is competing with many other vegan cookbooks, tho now it looks like it's going to have to take the lead when I get home.

Hi Pinemeadows! I'm so glad you enjoyed reading the blog, and thanks for dropping by! :) Oh, I can so appreciate what you are saying about having to prioritize cookbooks - so many recipes, so little time!

Ah, thanks Nancy! It is hard to get motivated to cook without much of an appetite, that's for sure. We've been kind of stuck here for a while since my DH has had some medical issues to deal with. Nothing life threatening, but we are grounded for a bit, which gives me lots of time to play in the kitchen! :)

Mylie's Secret Queso Dip
Mulligatawny Soup
Chilled Cucumber Salad

For the first time I tried substituting soymilk flavored with a little coconut extract, in place of coconut milk, (which is so high in fat, saturated fat, and calories), in the Mulligatawny Soup, and it was very good!

just got some coconut extract at the chinese market to use....also ordered some things from Harmony House for our truck camping trip in Feb. I ain't cooking!

I ordered the soup mixes with the crockpot which should be good for us...so Ed will better like soups! 4 cups of water to the mix and cook for 4 hours! The crockpot is only 2 quarts which is small but good for us since we can't save much for leftovers. Also ordered the container of garbanzo beans and the 28 pack sampler to try them. At least they are lightweight and will travel well. I am bringing the other cookbook...Vegan Unplugged that she and her husband wrote so I will see how it goes! :D We don't have a freezer in there so I have to be careful of sizes.
