Buddah's birthday is celebrated at various times during the spring in different countries. I used to live in Hawaii and it was celebrated on April 8th, but the temple observance were usually on the Sunday before. So today in Hawaii and some other places, today is Buddah Day.

The linked article you gave says the PBS show is on --

"PBS will air a new documentary, "The Buddha," narrated by actor Richard Gere, at 8 p.m. Wednesday. It will be repeated at 10 p.m. April 25."
