Are there any sauces that are ok?

Their sauces are very salty. I put some hoisin sauce on my Buddha's feast and since I don't eat a lot of salt it was easy to tell how salty it was. If you are sensitive to salt I would be very careful about what you order. The Buddha's feast is just steamed vegetables, rice and tofu. It was very healthy but not much taste to it just by itself.
Thanks. So I guess the "five-spice tofu " is rather bland?
I figured salty might be the case but other than soy, I am not
well versed in chinese sauces but would think such a dish would need something for me. Avoiding oil would be my main concern.

Served it over brown rice and everyone ( including all the meat eaters) loved it. These restaurants should be able to do things like that too.

So, safe = no added oil, salt, sugar, white flour, etc. etc.

I understand how it may seem plain by itself, but natural foods are so full of flavor all by themselves but we often do not appreciate these simple flavors because our taste buds are so used to high salt, high sugar, high fat. However, if we allow them to adjust, we can better appreciate the natural flavor of whole natural foods.

I agree, Jeff. I like it, too. Good idea about asking for extra veggies, though, b/c I agree that it needs more!
I mostly avoid eating out, but PF Chang's is where my office goes twice a year--it's a special thing, everyone looks forward to it, etc. So I was so happy to learn that there was something I could order!
IMO it's not as good as the recipes *I* make at home, but it's fine. The way I look at eating out now is that for the most part, I'm doing it in order to spend time w/ friends/family. That's the REAL reason for the meal--the meal itself does not have to be the best thing I ever ate. I think that adjusting one's perspective in this way helps.
velvetelvis wrote:I had at Chili's yesterday in the hopes I could find something McDougall safe. I chose the salad listed below w/o chicken or shrimp. I don't think there was any reduction in price for omitting the animal products. I've checked the nutrition information online but the listings included the meat/shrimp. That said, it was delicious and I did not have the usual post-restaurant food hangover. I hope this proves to be a good choice and bears up under the scrutiny of the trained eyes of the forum.
CHILI'S CARIBBEAN SALAD
Fresh pineapple, mandarin oranges, dried cherries, green onions, cilantro, sesame seeds and honey-lime dressing. With your choice of grilled chicken or grilled shrimp.
