Cool, take is slow and easy so your adrenals can get back up to speed with cortisol production. No cold turkey stuff with prednisone!

This is SO exciting for me to just read about, it must be really great at your end!!?

Yesterday's food was off a bit. I ended up in the hospital for a few hours due to a really wierd blood pressure spike, but got some blood work done while I was there and am still improving. Yay me.

October 22
Weight Gain: 12 lbs... crazy... my edema has returned in full force... who gains 12 lbs in 3 days?!?! My eating hasn't changed... apparently it is a side effect of the prednisone. I will be so happy to get off this crazy medicine. It was disappointing to see the scale and even a bit scary BUT, my body still seems to be healing. Just a small setback. :)

Breakfast: Rice cereal

Lunch: Rice/Corn Chips

Dinner: Leftover shepherd's pie/grapes

Thanks Ben... :)

Yesterday was not a good eating day for me. It wasn't horrible, but it was the first time I have strayed away from my goals. My journal explains that.

So...

Breakfast: potato

Lunch: pizza pockets (homemade w/ pie crust, sauce and veggies and a little mozzerella cheese)

Dinner: Grilled "cheese" w/ tofutti, and tomato soup

Snack: Grapes

I'm planning ahead and going back to the basics today. My body has not responded well this past week to my eating habits... which basically included small amounts of oil and everything McDougall... but... I wasn't watching my sodium like I should for my kidney disease. Now my edema has taken over once again. It is a combination of side effects and diet... I have to watch more carefully. I got confident that I could do it without counting the numbers like I used to. So... back to basics...

Breakfast: Cream of Rice cereal... with 2 tbsp brown sugar

Snacks: 2 cups apple, 2 cups grapes

Meals: Each time I am hungry I will eat 1/4 cup brown rice and 1 cup fresh steamed veggies (today: broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini), until I reach my limits for the day. (my limits are based on my amounts of sodium and protein)

Hey Debi, on top of the sodium you might have had, you had a stressful week last week, didn't you? That sure is hard on your body, particularly, IMO, the adrenals which are trying to pick up the slack while you wean off the prednisone. Plenty of rest and good food should help you.

 Yes, it was an unusually stressful week. I am going to take it easy this week and nourish my body. :)

Weight Loss: 4 lbs... yay... that WAS overnight... this edema stuff is really crazy. I feel much better today though... with the exception of a slight headache this morning. I think my body is adjusting and I am just riding the wave.

In addition... I followed my menu yesterday, but I honestly could not eat the rice plain and hot cereal... ;) yuk... I keep trying to eat it, but I hate it... and evenmore I hate it sweet. I tried my rice cereal yesterday with apples and brown sugar and could not choke down even 1/4 of it. So I am going to quit trying on that one and eat it with a bit of earth balance and salt.

Breakfast: Cream of Rice cereal (with a bit of earth balance and salt)

Snack: Apple

Lunch: Brown Rice w/ Vegan Chili over the top (no oils)

Snack: Onion rings... lightly battered (date with hubby and this is what I ended up eating... ugh)

Dinner: Quesadilla... lots of fresh veggies, but a little american cheese... honestly it was delicious, but I haven't had actual cheese in months and the delicious part was all the fresh veggies.

All in all, a bit of course today... but not horribly so.
