McDougallin' in The Dog Park!

Postby myowndogpark » Tue Sep 28, 2010 12:26 am

Today was my actual first day of McDougalling it...although I have been playing around with different food options for a few days. I am on MWL program. My day was:
Breakfast: 3/4 cup oats, 1/2 thinley sliced apple, sprinkle cinnemon, hot tap water

Lunch: McDougall Beans (3/4 cup)...soaked pintos overnight and then threw them in the crockpot last night b4 bed...added 5-6 tomatoes from my garden, Montreal Stk seasoning, water, onion powder, 6 cloves garlic. 32 oz lemon water

Dinner: Took some McDougall beans and mashed them with some of the liquid into a paste. Ground wheat berries in my wheat grinder and made ww flour and then made WW NO FAT tortillas with my tortilla press../just flour, water and a little sea salt. Chopped up Romaine, tomatoes from the garden. Spread 1 TB of beans onto ww tortilla...added lots of lettuce and tomatoes...ate 3, 7" McDougllarittos

With a movie tonight (Robin Hood) drank another 32 oz lemon water.

I was very full and felt hydrated all day. Didn't get in any formal exercise but just want one week of eating right before worrying about the work-out. I will be adding in rebounder and treadmill and swimming laps...changing things up so I don't get bored.

Emotionally I feel good. I am really struggling though with guilt and remorse from re-gaining some of the original weight I lost...it just makes me so mad at myself and I feel so much like a failure!!! gained back 25 lbs!!! BUT...I finally got back up on that horse and I'm holding on for dear life! The first 100 lbs I lost I lost in a not so healthy way...too few calories...and empty ones at that with a lot of fake protein...bars and shakes made up most of my calories back then. Not this time!!!

Thanks to a friend's suggestion i have discovered Mc Dougalling...and i am off on a healthy adventure this time around!!!

hey there. Welcome!

I can't wait to hear about your burst of clear headed, focused, calm, alert ENERGY yayayaaay!

the best part of McDougalling is the wonderful energy!

BTW, by your tracker, you are at the same weight where I was in 2005 and started actually weighing myself and working on my body.

It's doable, by George! and you're DOING IT
JUST DON'T EAT IT

Day 2
I am a little bummed today...I didn't lose a thing...and maybe there was too much salt in the beans but calculating my calories I was under 1000. I really had hoped for something!!! Maybe I am about ready for the time of month as I do feel swelling...I was thinking it was just the heat but who knows?? Anyway...just a tad bummed!

Well...today gonna watch the salt, up the water and stay on plan and see what happens in the morning. Leaving in a few for a nice long walk with the dogs! It is soooo hot I just don't feel like doing a thing but I have to move somehow lOL!!!

Breakfast:
3/4 cup oatmeal
1/2 apple
32 0z water

Lunch:
other 1/2 of apple
1 cup mc Dougall beans

Dinner: Homemade McDougall veggie soup 2 cups

Day 3
Todays weigh in was better...down 2 lbs. YEAH! Last night we went down the mountain to Trader Joes, Clarkes, Loma Linda Mrkt and Costco. I bought lots of beans, found brown rice pasta...just brown rice and water for ingredients. Tougher to find a spaghetti sauce with limited ingredients but found one with no oil, no sugars. Bought Quinoa, and lots of other cokkable organic grains, organic fresh veggies etc. I was proud of us as usually a trip to Trader Joes includes cookies or chocolate...not this time!!!

Found a wonderful site with many fun recipes that are MC Dougall friendly...www.veaganreader.com. They have one there that is Corn Chowder...can't wait to try it!!! Bought all I need for it! Also a great recipe for making your own Brown Rice Milk. I looked at Rice Dream...but YUCK...the ingredients are horrible!!! so will be making my own this weekend.

I am feeling better physically...I can already feel like I have more energy.

Breakfast
1 slice homemade FF WW bread
1 tsp Pumpkin Butter ( homemade)

Lunch
Cooked Maui Onions and apples (1 1/4 cup)

snack: 1/2 piece of WW bread w/raw carrot sticks

Dinner: 1 cup Mc Dougall beans, 1 cup homemade veggie soup...no salt ( cabbage, celery, brussel sprouts, carrots, red potatoes, pepper, water, curry powder, chili powder, fresh garlic

The McDougallin' is going really well although I am having a touch time journaling and keeping my food log each day. This week has sent our family in a tail spin...My oldest daughter, Andrea...lost her 4th baby at full term due to a cord accident and the very strange thing??? I lost my baby #4 13 years ago in exactly the same manner...so we are making arrangements and helping as much as possible...praising the Lord they live right around the corner from us!!! Services are Sunday afternoon at 3pm!!!

I have not weighed but only varied once during all this from the plan...last night I had pizza...greasy...icky..pepporoni pizza. The first few bites tasted really good but after that I just felt sick!!!! I ate way too much of it...and i was amazed how fast it afected my well-being!!! UUUUCCCCKKKKIE!!!!! But...no remorse...at least not the kind that sends me in a downward tailspin...just simply moving on and back on MWL plan!!! I think I am close to the 10lb weight loss mark but will wait to weigh a few days...simply because I don't want to be discouraged if nothing happens...not just right now...I want to concentrate on the right methods for plan and put the scale in the background for a few days!!!

Struggling with getting time for my 45 minute walks each day...did it yesterday but not the three days previous. So off for a nice long walk today...no rain!!! YEAH!!!!

Hi dogpark,

So sorry to hear about the loss of your grandchild. And yours as well. That must be so hard on you. It would be really hard to be on this plan for a short time & not to revert to old habits of eating when life becomes too hard. So just put the pizza out of your mind & keep eating the McDougall foods. You will find it helps with the stress.

Hang in there & keep posting.

Thanks for the kind words ladies!

Tomorrow is the memorial service so I got to head down the mountain today to get some much needed groceries in the house as I am sure we will be having drop in company afterwards. We went to WinCo and I was able to buy tons of grains, oats brown rice, veggies, etc. I am starting a big pot of Mc Dougall Beans so I can feed everyone and be prepared...they will never know LOL!!!

Today went great...went to Soup Plantation and ate 100% on plan! Yeah!!!

Potatoe Veggie Patties (PVP)

I just made this tonight!!! Don't want to lose this recipe!!!

Deanna’s Potato-Veggie Patties (PVP)
1. 10-12 small red potatoes…boiled and cooled, then grated
2. whole Maui Onion diced very fine
3. 2 bell peppers…one green one red chopped very fine
4. 3 Huge handfuls of fresh spinach…chopped very fine
5. 2 cups organic kernel corn fresh or frozen
6. 9-10 fresh cloves of garlic…chopped fine
7. 1 TB cinnamon
8. 2-3TB Taco seasoning
9. 3 TB freshly ground WW flour
10. 1 cup organic whole rolled oats
In HUGE mixing bowl, add in the boiled, grated potatoes skin and all. In a large skillet gently stir fry all the minced onion, peppers, spinach, corn, and garlic until almost tender. Add the stir fried veggies to the potatoes. Then add in the oats, ww flour and mix together until all is coated and mixed well. Add in seasonings to taste. Heat a non-stick griddle and form patties using the ring of a mason jar lid…remove lid ring and cook on griddle until golden brown…flipping a few times to get them evenly browned. Makes 23 patties @ 98 calories each
Serve them hot or cold with BBQ sauce, salsa, mustard, ketchup or applesauce. Very filling!!! And really yummy when you get them crisp on the outside!

Thanks Debbie!!! I really think this way of eating made the whole thing easier. Normally I would have stuffed myself with all the comfort foods...fried junk and sugar I would have been able to stuff in my pie-hole...and I would have felt just sick...both because of the weight gain and becuse of the icky, sick way those type of foods make me feel!! Eating that pizza made me feel horrible!! So...I guess that is progress...actually getting through a tragedy in a healthy way and dealing with just the emotions from that instead of compounding the pain with food issues!!
