what are your blood sugar numbers two hours after starting a meal? I wouldn't worry too much about the 180 count one hour after eating. some guidelines now don't say people with diabetes should keep their numbers as low as people without diabetes.

what is your A1c? if you have diabetes it should be 7.0 or less.

here's info, I know you're read a lot so I don't know if you've been to this site.

Donna, I want to thank you for posting the diabetesmonitor link. This article addresses info I've been looking for, for a long time. I too had been confused by the disparity/range of recommended after-meal numbers, and when to take the readings. It has finally set my mind at ease.

I'm ok and steadily improving thanks to McD - in spite of, or better, because of all those extra starches

thanks, r-marie. I read the A1c is considered the "gold standard" for blood glucose. mine isn't bad and I'll have another test in Sept. and not worry about the 1 hour readings, the two hours aren't bad. when you read that diabetics are okay though numbers are higher than normal ("normal" is now expected to be really low) it doesn't seem so bad.

glad you're doing good!

My A1C was 5.9 in Feb, 2008. Got another test for everything coming up in Aug.

Re the blood sugar ranges, something occured to me after reading the article you linked previously:

If you 'graze' a lot like I do (oatmeal/flax with fruit and rice milk for breakfast, then an hour later maybe a chunk of sweet potato, then a tomato, then a potato or rice and veggies or salad and/or beans for lunch, then maybe some popcorn later and a piece of fruit, or a wasa cracker with a smidgeon of peanut butter and slices of banana...then dinner, and so on into the night) .....

my blood sugar will never have a chance to return to its 'resting' place. It will be elevated all the time!!!!

I may have to run this by JeffN unless you've already thought of this yourself and know the answer. But maybe having BS around 160 more or less all day is still ok??? Not sure how that would would affect the A1C test result.

Clearly has not worked for me so far. Only limited fruit for last month at least prior to test (and that only apples mostly and some berries) and zero juice for probably 25 years. No flour products, no sweetners except stevia, etc

I've wondered about what causes triglycerides to go up for some time BECAUSE while my cholesterol has always been high - around 250 - my triglycerides have been low - between 50 and 80 for years. I have not been able to find an answer to that. Of course I'm not complaining :-)

And I do eat 2-3 pieces of fruit every day (blueberries, mango, papaya, some banana, apple, some grapes).

r-marie-

I've wondered about that, too, whether it's better to graze all day (or at least eat often) and if that makes the blood sugar stay high. or when it goes down in two hours it's time to eat again. I certainly feel a need to eat often. in order to go a few hours (3 to 5) without eating I have to eat more at a meal and "stuff" myself (with McD foods, potatoes and veggies).

with your A1c being good you might be okay regardless of hourly levels.

maybe Jeff will have some info on this.
