EteSelle, here is something from drmirkin.com on salt and blood pressure.

http://www.drmirkin.com/archive/7095.html

If you go on his site and go to the search you might find other things on salt and blood pressure. He gives references for what he writes so you might want to check them out.

My own blood pressure is a mystery to me. I have a wrist cuff and the systolic is pretty accurate but I think the diastolic is about 10 points lower than the reading I get at the dentist's (I always request they take my blood pressure and I go 4 times a year) Just now it read 119/58 and you can see that the pulse pressure would still be high even if the diastolic were 68. For a few days the systolic was 165. I, like you cannot figure this out. I do not use the salt shaker but do use honey mustard with salt and chipotle hot sauce and am not as religious as you about no salt. Maybe I should try Dr. Mirkin's information about too low salt in the diet. The last time I was at the dentist it was 128/70 but she did not use the wide cuff and I had just sat down and did not do the 10 minute rest thing so I think the systolic would even be lower.

You don't have white coat hypertension do you?

Did you look at my BP thread? I'm low fat AND low salt. AND no caffeine, LOL. It was dropping the caffeine that really lowered it, but I'm not going back to too much salt anyway.

And yes, I have some white coat syndrome--all discussed in the BP thread. :)

One more anniversary:

It's been one year since I hit my FINAL weight of 117-120! I had originally planned on 140, the anniversary of which I marked in Jan., but after that I kept right on losing! I've maintained 120, within 2-3 lbs either way, for a WHOLE YEAR now. WHOO HOO!!!!

Congratulations! Your story is one in particular that inspired me to fix my goal higher (or lower weight, that is) than I originally intended.

Thank you for all your contributions to this forum.

This is so wonderful! It's eerie the way we have parallelled, too--I was just checking my weight notebook this morning to see when I should update my success thread. :-) I have much longer to go -- August for my 132 goal, and December for my 120-125 final weight.

You are a great example for this way of eating and living! Keeping it off is the BEST thing to show people it can be done, and it will stay off!

This is the same for me. I really like her story. I guess seeing the picture and knowing she started where I am really gave me the idea that I could go lower than I thought.
