Blondie,

Thanks for taking the lead and running with it.

I started the month with a 7.1 mile run. Next weekend is my 10k and October 29th is the half marathon. I'm only expecting to walk part of the half - I don't have that figured out yet.

my goal is to get in my five walks or something aerobic each week and to work on building muscles, especially triceps, legs and core.

Friday the end of Sept turned out to be only 1 1/2 hrs of yoga

Saturday Oct 1st was 4 1/2 hrs of yoga, and no this wasn't wimpy stuff. We are talking all kinds of balancing on your arms or head type of poses, along with 50 sun salutations.

Sunday was 3 1/2 hrs of the same hard yoga. Luckily we did some breathing exercises and learning about that arm of yoga for a few hours at the end. I needed a break.

Monday I took off between being sore and rain

Tuesday 50 walk, 10 yoga for strength

BTW Blonde I am jealous on that massage. I had my Mom rub tiger balm in my back Sunday night and that was a huge help.

The massage was awesome, Faith! I think I'm going to reward myself with a massage everytime I lose 10 more lbs. She was firm, but gentle when she found tight/tender spots. Candlelight, soft music, and a gentle breeze (ceiling fan  ) and it was so relaxing. She had warm smooth stones that she used on some especially sore places that felt so soothing! Looks like your month is off to a good start!

I ran my 10k yesterday. It went better than expected.

My heart rate monitor was acting goofy - so I ran hotter than planned. I came in last - but I got a second place medal - there were only two people in my age group. :)

I have done something everyday in October. I was so used to getting 10000 steps on my pedometer that the days I bike or swim I get disappointed that I don't have 10000 steps. But I am trying not to overdo it on the non running days.

Actually the running thing is kind of funny - I run/walk. I mostly walk since it only takes about 30 seconds for my heart rate to increase and I am working on keeping the heart rate low to develop my aerobic capacity.

This method has also taken care of most of the aches and potential injuries I seemed to be flirting with while learning to run.

I am in training the next two weeks - so my activity will be scaled back. My goals are to run 3x a week - two short 40 minute sessions - and my long runs.

I had hope to get up to 10 miles before the half marathon - but that doesn't look likely - but since I run/walk - I will probably be walking most of it.

Vic - congrats on completing the race. hehe that is funny about coming in last but getting a second place in your age group. Vic there is a site that converts other activity into steps. I use to get upset at working my butt off and only having a 2,000 steps in.

Blondie I think you are on to something about rewarding yourself with a massage every 10 lbs lost.

OK I think I left off at:
10/6 with a 60 minute walk
10/7 in yoga school we did book work
10/8 we had a practice of 150 minutes
10/9 Sunday we also had a practice of 150 minutes and it was really intensive on the muscles. Several of the gals complained and one almost passed out.
10/10 I too the day off. My first day at home in 3 weeks. I got a manicure and pedicure.
10/11 45 gardening and really I was out there longer than that
10/12 10 yoga
10/13 nothing just rain
10/14 which is today, I already did 30 of yoga and I think tonight is book work.

End of month -- goal was to exercise 21 weekdays in October, cardio and resistance. Midway through the month I decided to reduce the resistance exercises to 3x a week because I didn't feel like I was allowing my muscles sufficient recovery time.

I did some cardio exercises 18 days this month (19 if I follow through tomorrow), and resistance exercises 12 days of the month (again, 13 if I do them tomorrow). So I'm happy with my progress, but will work on getting more exercise in next month.

I'm not sure if I will post here in November, or just post in my journal. It's nice to not have so many posts to keep up with when life gets busy, so I'm leaning towards just keeping track in my journal.
