Rheumatoid arthritis and medication

Postby Ronandrea » Sat Jul 04, 2020 11:01 am

Hi we are new to this forum but not new to Dr McDougall and a WFPB lifestyle in general..
Herself has been suffering from a very agressive form off RA for over 15 years and after the usual winding tracks off different medications, has been on Humira and methotrexate, statins ,blood pressure meds, antihestamines ' pain killers for 10 years when three years ago we discovered Dr McDougall and Dr Esselstein, Dr Collin Campbell and we decided to both go on a strictly WFPB diet.
The results where truly amazing, within weeks my wife could stop the statins, blood pressure down , and same for me. Additionally she slowly got off all the medication, no more Humira or Methotrexate, no more statins , blood pressure meds , nothing at all , just healthy food..
But than after a period off high stress and an unknown tooth problem and anti biotics, the RA came back with a vengeance!
We live in France and over here no rheumatologist is even remotely interested in anything else than agressive immunosuppressant medication, so that became the only option to be able to deal with a really bad and persisting attack of RA, resulting even in two completely damaged knees that would not get rid off inflammation..
Finally she had to give in and was put back on Humira. This time the Humira didn't seem to make any difference and after three months off very painfull and neverending treatments of opium and cortisone , the rheumatologist decided to put her on tolicizumab ..
After 6 weeks on this , blood pressure is sky high, cholesterol is through the roof and she has terrible headaches, UTI , and we had to go to the hospital the other day as we thought she was having a heart attack.
Frankly we are at our wits-end, this doesn't seem to be the right way we are heading, no WFPB diet can cope with the immunosuppressant medication, and we really fear for the damage that is being done either way: no medication means terrible flare-up s and unreversably damaged joints , the medication and it's side effects , are apparently although getting rid off the inflammation ' causing' heart problems, high cholesterol and high risk low immunity..
Is there anybody out there that has gone through a similar experience and has come out the other side..?
Does anybody have good advise about possible changes we could try, or solutions they have found to be able to live a reasonably normal life?

Everybody that is in a similar situation, we wish you lots off strength and courage, for those off you with answers; yes please' , we look forward to hearing from you!

All the best
Rudi and Andrea
