Gout

Postby kimba » Sat Apr 07, 2018 12:05 pm

I am at my wits end. I have had gout for almost two weeks now. I read online what to eat, what not to eat. And they all are not in agreement about it. So, what does Dr. McDougall say? What has helped you?

This diet will help with gout. Read about the basics of this diet for free on this website, or in many of Dr. McDougall's books. As for what causes gout, try this link:

Here is an account by a "Star McDougaller" who cured her gout:

Here is an article on arthritis, including information on gout:

There may be other other about gout that you can find using "Search" in the green bar at the top of this page.

I have gout, and I also follow the McDougall diet. In my case, the diet helps big-time.

That said, I think you should see a rheumatologist. Short-term, they can prescribe good and relatively safe prescription meds that will alleviate the pain and also lower your uric-acid levels (believed to be the main cause of gout). They can also monitor your uric acid levels over time with a simple blood test.

Also, even while following the McD diet, don't go overboard on beans. That includes tofu and other soy-based products. The good doctor recommends no more than 1 cup of beans a day. Because they're hi-protein, and can contribute to your gout. No prob, however, with potatoes, sweet potatoes, rice, winter squash, etc.

Good luck!
