More Rice+Veggies planned for today, I'm just going to keep on keepin on as they say until I get tired of this. I've been very satisfied eating this way. I did have a banana yesterday since my dinner was going to be late, but otherwise I haven't felt the need for fruit.

I hear you on beloved pet issues. I have a 4 day trip coming up and will miss my kitty cat. I do have a good cat sitter. But it's important to go see my oldest friend. And I am gearing up for the onslaught of why do I eat plants instead of meat? Think I'll just go with light-hearted responses, "I'm just weird" etc.

I too love eating simply, rice bowls as you are doing. Fast, easy, nutritious, what's not to like? I do eat 1 or 2 fruits a day, for the nutrients and fiber. A bowl of frozen berries is usually what I do.

I'm back! Had a great beach vacation with my family. Not all smooth sailing- my mom fell and scraped her leg which is becoming more and more frequent these days. She is having a lot of health problems, and the instability on her feet combined with low blood pressure and muscle loss is a bad combination on top of everything else. Glad I got to spend some time with her last week.

The good news is my cat is home from the hospital after 7 days. She was in kidney failure, so she's not out of the woods yet, but they got her numbers back down into the normal range. We're treating her at home for this week and on Friday she goes back to the specialist to get her values rechecked. My miniature poodle is also back from being boarded at the vet after her spay surgery. It's super hard to try to keep her from being her bouncy little self to protect her incision, but we're working our way through it slowly.

Back on MWL plan today. I made it through about half of our vacation before I succumbed to self pity and ate off-plan food... which is silly because it always makes me feel worse long term. It's hard to remember that when all you can think of is the short term payoff. Just going to brush it off and move forward! The weather here is starting to feel a little more like fall, so once my little walking buddy has fully recovered from her spay surgery, I'm looking forward to longer walks and more time to play outside in general.

I've got my rice cooker working on some black rice and my pressure cooker making a big pot of black beans. I think I'll make some black bean soup today for my afternoon treats :)

My cats kidney values tested normal!!! Hopefully she can completely recover and it was just acute kidney failure. She'll go back in a month to get retested as long as she stays stable. Yay!! My mom had a stint in the hospital this week due to low BP and tremors, and her kidney values were high too. Luckily the doctors think everything was caused by dehydration, so she's back at home now after being pumped full of fluids. Phew!

Everything on the McDougall front is going smoothly. I got my routine physical last week with bloodwork, and besides being overweight all of my numbers are normal. I've stopped doing MWL strictly since I was losing weight a little too quickly- I want to make sure this weight loss stays, and for me slower is usually better. I've added in Grape Nuts with unsweetened almond milk occasionally as a snack, some whole wheat pasta with my steamed veggies instead of just rice, and occasionally a whole wheat pita too.

On the pasta- I've always struggled to find a no fat added pasta sauce that I like. I'm going to post a question about that in the food section to get some recommendations. The Engine 2 pasta sauce is really watery, but if I stir fry it with the cooked pasta to concentrate it down a bit and then add a few drops of sucralose, it tastes very yummy. I know that will increase it's caloric density, but I don't mind the slower weight loss that will probably come with it.

wow, it's been this long since I had time to peruse the journal forum! I didn't see your postings here, Mickeys :) Glad your doggy is okay, and now it's been a few weeks, and I hope your cat is pulling around.

Hi MickeysBackyard. I'm impressed that you are sticking with rice and veggies for so long. Rice is my go to starch, but I mix it up a lot and am not doing MWL. With a rice cooker, it makes cooking super easy. When I ate only rice and veggies for a while on an elimination diet, I lost weight quickly into the lower bmi side while eating huge plates. Keep up the good work.
Would you say the switch was difficult or not so hard? Is it getting easier? Do you notice your tastes changing?
