I really like your idea to put cherries and ginger in oatmeal. I am contemplating doing a baked cherry oatmeal with ginger. Those are two of my favourite flavours and I've never had them together. Also, potatoes with veggies sounds like a really delicious breakfast. I like sweet potatoes boiled in vegetable broth with grated ginger and then pureed. The combination of sweet potatoes and fresh ginger is amazing.

Amber, that sounds really good. Except in curry, I don't think I've ever eaten sweet potatoes and ginger together.

Plan for today:
B: oatmeal and an apple
L: family cookout -- I'm going to make a compliant potato salad and if there are veggie dogs I may have one, but I may not. Just bein' honest. :-)
D: compliant potato salad leftovers
S: fruit, salmas

I may be quiet for a little bit. A week from tomorrow, I have the biggest job interview of my life, and then if I get the job, I start in a few weeks, so this may be a really interesting time coming up! If I get this job, and I hear I'm a strong candidate for it, then I'll be a boss. Besides when I ran my own businesses, I've never been a boss before. Not 100% sure how I feel about it, but I"m putting myself out there. We'll see! It's about a $12K raise annually, so it would be a pretty big change for us.

Day 1

Postby Idgie » Mon Dec 10, 2018 9:52 am

I was thinking yesterday about how on-track this journal has kept me, so I decided that no matter what, I'm not gonna let it slide. I rearranged some other priorities and I plan to keep journalling here at least once in the morning, preferably also once at night to recap. We'll see how it goes.

Plan for today:
B: Red beans and rice, green beans
L/D: Red beans and rice, green beans, roasted sweet potato
S: Soup, fruit, green beans

Actual:
B:

Idgie,

My fingers are crossed for you! I'm going through a similar event in my life. I've been called for a preliminary interview. The final interviews are coming up. It will feel like the biggest job of my career. It will be a challenging exciting job. I hope you get yours. They would be so lucky to get you on their team. From what you write I think you would be a supportive level headed boss. Dealing with the low level anxiety without eating has been a challenge for me. Keeping giving yourself those loving kindness talks you would give a friend. Keep the fridge packed with ready to eat MWL compliant food. :D
And, I totally agree with your comments about this journal helping keep you accountable with your goals. It's like magic. I write down my intentions here. Then I think about them again and again until I achieve them. Amazing! I'm so grateful for this website and forum.

Day 1

Postby Idgie » Wed Dec 12, 2018 10:10 am

Thanks, everyone!

I'm rebooting today. I don't even want to tell you what I've eaten the past few days. Not sure exactly what was going on there, but I"m nipping it in the bud, not gonna obsess over it.

Going to stick with the same breakfast and lunch every day for a while: Breakfast of oatmeal and fruit or veggies; lunch of potatoes or sweet potatoes and veggies. Keeping it simple really does help me -- does away with choice paralysis.

Today's plan:
B: oatmeal and fruit
L: sweet potatoes and veggies
D: ratatouille
S: apple, salmas, vegetable broth

Actual:
B: oatmeal and mango

Day 1

Postby Idgie » Sat Dec 15, 2018 9:03 am

The less said about what I ate this week, the better. Moving on. I'm starting a 100-day challenge to post pics of all my food. It helps me, but I know some people don't like being inundated with food pics, so no hard feelings if you stop following this thread.

I'm also going to note the meals I avoided adding salt/sugar to ("no s/s").

Plan for today:
B: Oatmeal and a mango
L: Steamed potatoes and veggies
D: Baked sweet potato and mango salsa with steamed veggies
S: veggies, potatoes, sweet potatoes

B:  no s/s
L:  no s/s
S: kappa maki and no-sugar-added boba out shopping with the kid
D: sweet potato and zucchini/onions  no s/s
S: broth made from just water and Table Tasty -- not bad, not great  no s/s

Day 2

Postby Idgie » Sun Dec 16, 2018 9:37 am

Cold day, and a day without plans at all, so I'm staying in my jammies and starting the day with soup.

Today's plan:
B: vegetable soup
L: potato or sweet potato and veggies
D: soup and fresh spring rolls made from brown-rice wrappers and veggies -- partner's will have fish
S: soup

Actual:
B:  (2 bowls)
L: red rice salad with tons of veggies and ginger balsamic; raw veggies
S: apple
D: veggie spring rolls with a little too much cashew sauce (like peanut sauce, but with cashews)

Day 1

Postby Idgie » Thu Dec 20, 2018 10:15 am

Okay, things can get back to normal now. I didn't get the job. I'm half disappointed, half relieved -- it was gonna be a hard job. So now I can settle back in and work on getting healthier.

Today, I'm at 285 pounds, which is 65 down from my highest of 350, so yay, but it still means I've gained almost 10 pounds from my low of 276 on the first of this month. Now, I'm not one of those people who cares a TON about what I weigh, but it's a good indicator I'm not eating right if my weight is shooting up.

I've decided to do regular McD for a while, because I seem to be reacting to the restriction of MWL with some weird binges, and that's not something I want to see, so just going back slow and steady for a while. Better than rebellious junk-food fests.

Anyway, plan for today:

B: Rice (not very hungry, and I have to leave for a meeting in a half hour)
L: Taro and radish cakes; salad
D: Mashed potatoes and chickpea gravy; green beans
S: Fruit, veggies, salmas

Hi Idgie,

I love your attitude about the prospective job. Too bad you didn't get to choose for yourself if you wanted it, but hey, such is life. Oh, well, as Dr. Beck would say. I feel the same way about the one I'm applying for... A lot of work, possibly at the cost of losing my commitment to my health and livelihood.

It's funny, I've had very similar feelings about trying for the near perfect MWL plan adherence. In some ways I wonder if it causes me to really binge on things I wouldn't, just because I try all the time to keep my eating under control. It's all a process and trying to navigate takes agility! Cheers to you for making changes when you feel it necessary.

Thank you, moonlight. I feel like we're often on the same wavelength. Here's hoping we both get on a good healthy groove now and forward. Not eating great lately, but making small steps to making it easier. My kids bought me an instant pot, so I'm going to experiment with making all my starches in that for a while. They got me the 8-quart Duo. I like it a lot so far. The first McDougally thing I made in it was the cabbage soup everyone's been making (I didn't pressure-cook it -- just made it per the recipe, using the IP as a regular soup pot. I thought it was just okay, and my partner didn't care for it. I will eat the rest of it, but probably not making it again. Looks pretty, though!
