Day 14 wrap-up

Postby Idgie » Thu Nov 01, 2018 10:09 pm

Today's plan:
B: savory oats and an apple
L: w/w pasta salad; kimchi slaw
S: w/w pasta salad; kimchi slaw
D: w/w pasta salad; kimchi slaw

Actual:
B:
S: can of corn
L:  (plus some fat-free refried beans
S: McD soup
D: off-plan restaurant meal

Broke my streak with an off-plan restaurant meal, but I'm right back on track. One meal is just one meal.

Symptoms: none

Meds: just the reduced amounts of thyroid and beta-blocker

Things I did to support myself today:
* packed a healthy lunch
* ate soup before going to the restaurant to try to minimize the damage
* allowed myself to really enjoy the off-plan meal instead of letting myself give in to shame
* helped a co-worker remember that even in a toxic work environment, we have the choice to do good

Food prep: none

Exercise: none

Plan for tomorrow:
B: savory oats and an apple
L: w/w pasta salad; kimchi slaw
S: w/w pasta salad; kimchi slaw
D: w/w pasta salad; kimchi slaw

Congratulations, Idgie. One meal is just one meal. The important thing is getting right back in your MWL mindset. Hooray!!! And, happy Friday! :-D

Day 1

Postby Idgie » Fri Nov 02, 2018 4:51 pm

Thank you, LIndsey and moonlight!

Didn't have time to plan today; was up all night sick from the restaurant food, and had to be to work early today.

Actual:
B: radish cakes -- McD-friendly, but probably too processed to be MWL
S: fruit
L: oil-free whole-wheat pasta salad
S: savory oats
D: Off-plan dinner. What is my deal this week? Sigh.

Plan for tomorrow:
B: savory oats and an apple
L: Soup
D: Soup
S: Soup or bean salad

Day 1

Postby Idgie » Sat Nov 03, 2018 10:56 am

Made the effort to go to the store and get starches today. I'm steaming sweet potatoes and (true) yams right now, and I had sweet potato dumplings and chestnuts for breakfast. Having cooked starches at the ready is really my #1 success strategy.

Plan for today:
B: sweet potato dumplings and chestnuts
L: sweet potatoes and slaw
D: sweet potatoes and slaw
S: sweet potatoes and slaw and/or soup

Actual:
B:
S:  (sweet potato and salsa)

Argh, I'm having a tough weekend. Hormonal hell, and having trouble in the evenings three days running. I need a reset. I am going to read the MWL book again in the morning. I need to get my head back in the game.

Hi Idgie,

Days like these will make you stronger in your resolve! Here are some things that come to mind for me, thinking about THOSE kind of days:

If you have time, try watching some videos from Dr. McD or Dr. Lim.
Plan out your meals. Add something extra special in there.
Start a list of ways you are being kind to yourself.
Drink water - you may be dehydrated from too much sodium.
Get outside in nature. Breathe and focus on how precious you are.

Moonlight, comrade-in-all things MWL :)

Day 1

Postby Idgie » Sun Nov 04, 2018 12:16 pm

Thanks so much, MWL buddy. :-) I'm back on track today, and I'm taking your advice and Dr. McD's to get things back in gear. Went to the gym this morning, too. I think my hormone soup has evened out now. Menopause has really made my monthly hormones very weird. Much weirder than when I was pre-menopausal.

Plan for today:
B: Sweet potatoes and veggies
L: Sweet potatoes and veggies
S: Soup
D: Sweet potatoes and veggies

Actual:
B: sweet potatoes
S:
L: ate out -- veggie dog, low-fat chips, juice
D: roasted sweet potato fries with the balsamic dijon marinade from Chef AJ's brussels sprouts
S: sweet potato and a little sweet mustard

I won't do the sweet potatoes this way every time, but they were good. I'm positive steaming is a lower calorie density way to prepare them, but they were a tasty treat, and my kid really liked them, even not fried. :-)

Went to the gym today and rode the exercise bike hard for over an hour, then walked for a long time while shopping with partner.

Finally a good day after some rough ones. Lunch wasn't MWL, but it was the best option there, and that's something I don't mind once in a while. Much better than bingeing on fried stuff.

Symptoms: some soreness in my ankle from all the walking; weird pain in my upper back for a few minutes -- like chest pain but in the back. Will keep an eye on it.

Drugs: just my reduced thyroid and beta-blocker

I love that "asked the partner not to watch food porn while you are around"

It occurred to me, my delight with the show Chopped...am I triggering myself to want rich delectable dishes by watching food shows? Chopped is my fave, but I also love Iron Chef. And I struggle to stay on plan. Hmmmm...

Anyway, GORGEOUS dress! Will you take a picture of yourself in it? I'd LOVE to see that! wow! And congrats on reducing meds, etc. Well done.

Day 1

Postby Idgie » Wed Nov 07, 2018 8:43 am

So I ate a lot yesterday, but almost all on-plan foods, so I count that as a win. I started to eat something off-plan (some coated peanuts a co-worker brought in) but stopped myself and had some lentil soup and fruit salad instead.

Plan for today:
B: hash brown waffle and soup
L: potatoes and veggies
D: potatoes and veggies
S: potatoes and veggies

Actual:
B: Soup and taro/radish cakes
