Fresh start

Postby Werner1950 » Fri Oct 19, 2018 8:37 am

I mean, I am starting over again with my journalling, not my woe.
I have been eating this way for 5 or 6 years now off and on. That off and on has been the reason why I am not reaching my goal.
I started this when I was around 190. I am 172 today. My biggest realization on this woe is the truth of Calorie density. And how quickly I can obliterate my losses when I cheat. It will take a week for me to lose 1-2 pounds, and yet I can regain that amt and more in a day. Sigh. My target range is to get to 140-145. (I am 5'4").

So the last time I spiked up to 178 lbs, I drew a line in the sand. This is eat. No more cheats. Not even on weekends when I am at all kinds of social events when food is handy everywhere.

Yesterday's food.
Breakfast: Steel cut oats, 1 cup frozen blueberries, and maple syrup.
Lunch: Mashed potatoes (no milk of course) with some garlic and onions mixed in and frozen mixed veggies. I used a little Hoison sauce for flavouring.
Supper: Mixed Salad with balsamic vinegar dressing, Eggplant baked with breadcrumbs,
Snacks: 1 orange, 2 rice crackers with hummus (home made, no oil)

I hope you don't mind, but I"m going to take your example and make a fresh start, too, with NO off-plan foods. I'm ready, and your post gave me the little shove I needed.

Happy to hear that Idgie.

Today, the same breakfast (Steel cut oats, blueberries and maple syrup.
Lunch was brown rice, thai veggie mix with added onions and mushrooms (sauteed with water)
Supper - ate rice with veggies. However, after cooking their veggies in water, our Chinese ladies pour a little oil on the water and draw the veggies through them. So the veggies were a bit oily. (They do that mostly for appearance I think. Makes them look fresh and colorful..) Used a little garlic/chili sauce to flavour the rice.
I notice our Chinese friends do not put any sauce on their rice. They eat it without any kind of flavouring as far as I can tell. I should try to get accustomed to that. I always feel like it needs a sauce or gravy r something.

What good is a commitment to accountability if one holds back or is not being honest?

On Sunday we went to celebrate our daughter's birthday. We brought a huge pile of rice and all the toppings. Everything legal. They all loved it. After it was all over, my daughter brought out the cake and ice cream..

In my defense, I only had a small amount. And no second helpings.

I have been good ever since. Yesterday was a repeat of Saturdays menu. Today will be the same.
Interesting how sameness does not bother me. I seem to value simplicity and routine more than novelty and variety. No weight gain over the weekend. That is a victory. because weekends for me are busy social times with lots of junk food within easy reach.

I think I would count the weekend as a victory, if it were me! Good going.

I agree with Idgie, on the small serving of cake and ice cream. A birthday celebration is the very definition of "feast day" which Dr M does recognize and doesn't forbid. You did really well having a single, small serving.

Thanks for the encouragement!

Course if I did that at every child and grandchild's birthday, I'll blimp out in no time if I don't succumb to heart attack or stroke first!

So how did Tuesday day go?

About the same. What can I say? I am a man of routine. Does that tell you my age? :)

B: Steel Cut Oats. Blueberries, Maple Syrup
Lunch: Rice, mixed veggies, Hoison sauce
Supper: Potatoes in the airfryer, ketchup. Salt and vinegar
I had a rice cracker and hummus sandwich for a snack. Also had a banana and canned peaches (canned in water, I think.)

It's Wednesday. Haven't gained, haven't lost. Still at 172.5
Have I hit another set point? We shall see.

Today for snacks I had 1 apple and 1 slice of toast - that Ezekiel bread. Costs 7 dollars a loaf here in Toronto.

My meals were exactly the same as yesterday. Except I am eating less rice and more veggies. And for supper I had air fried sweet potato without ketchup. Finding ways of minimizing condiments to see if that makes a difference.

My wife started eating my way about 6 months ago, and she just keeps losing weight. She will soon be as trim as she was when we married. For me this is huge. Leading by example is what did it.

Werner, have you considered making your own bread? If you want, I can teach you an easy method for making dirt-cheap compliant breads with no kneading. :-)
