Marmite allowed?

Postby creativeone » Fri Jan 01, 2021 2:51 pm

Does anyone know if Marmite or Vegemite is on the allowed food list? I am in the UK and its a commonly used yeast extract flavouring which is delicious and I wonder if its ok to use. It has 0 fat and no fat added. It might not be acceptable because of the sodium though.

Thanks in advance

Thank you Jeff - I did a search using the search feature and didn't find anything, but I am so glad to have a definitive answer.

I live in Australia where vegemite is very popular and used as a spread on bread. It's way too salty for me for this purpose.
I use it instead of stock cubes in soups and stews to give an umami flavour - no more than a teaspoon in a large pot.
I just opened a jar (220 grams) which will last me six months or so.

I am familiar with the Vegemite too and we have used Marmite in stews/sauces like you do. Thanks for the info.
