No nut no bean spreads for bread

Postby Branson » Thu Apr 02, 2020 5:58 am

Anyone have a couple of recipes?

Other than fruit I seriously cant think of a thing for spreading on bread that is savory.

No tofu, no nuts no beans, what to do?

thanks

I like Cooking with Plants Cauliflower Butter. I use half the salt.

Oh man that is creative!

I can see that being great. BUT not for me, I sure wont go shopping now for the cauliflower and would need to raid my frozen normandy bags to try to come up with that amount.

But FOR SURE when I feel safe to shop I will make that getting psyllium too which is likely necessary!

Any more recipes like this will be appreciated cuz maybe I have plenty of the ingredients to do it right now.

Roasted garlic. No recipe needed. Just get some garlic, peel off most of the paper-like stuff, cut off the very top end (opposite of the root), put in a small oven proof pan, add some water, so it doesn't burn or scorch, cover with foil, and put in the oven, or even a toaster oven at 450 degrees, more or less, and roast until really soft.

Well that sounds great too.

Alas no real garlic it will have to wait.

I DID use what I have and made something yummy!

Bread Spread

Oats made into flour in a vitamix (at the same time adding)
Nutritional yeast
garlic powder
onion powder
trader joes everything but the bagel
salt
Then I nuked water to boil and I stirred in a tupperware the dry mix and kept stirring and adding the hot water till I thought that it was a good consistency and then stirred in lemon juice, tasting and tasting until it was just the right amount of tang, and then adding more salt for good measure.

Well I love it! And will be making it every week until there is some normalcy in life to have other ingredients. As it is , I could likely make this with on hand for a very long time...

That sounds yum. Sort of garlic-onion spread. Do you have measurements?

My kids eat toast with peanut butter (they need to grow) or apple sauce.

Instead of hummus, mash a potato and add whichever flavouring you would use in hummus.
