Personally, I roll with the flow. Some days I eat a lot of different things and some days I just keep to a few basics.

same here!

I eat the same things over and over again. My husband doesn't eat the McDougall way of eating, so I only cook for myself. I batch cook barley or buckwheat so I have 3-4 days of meals with one prep session, and I use no-salt-added canned beans.

My most frequent meal consists of 1/2 cup grain, 1/4 cup corn, 1/4 cup peas, sauteed (in water) onions and peppers, 1/4 cup beans, and torn greens mixed in. Sometimes I use sriracha, sometimes I just eat it plain.

My favorite breakfast is 1/4 cup old fashioned oats in a 5 oz container of vanilla Silk soy yogurt. I also use instant oat packets with cinnamon.

I am a former bulimic, so when I get too much variety with my food, I start overeating. It's much safer for me to maintain food control by relying on the same foods again and again. I associate my oats, grains, and beans with the beginning of my McDougalling (two months ago), which doesn't have the same negative connotation as previous "diets" where I went through periods of restriction following by bingeing again. This is a real lifestyle change complete with new foods - I've been a junk food vegan in the past - and I have positive associations with the foods I now eat.

I know McDougall doesn't measure, but I have to in order to avoid food insecurity. If left to my own devices, I would undereat to make sure I wasn't going over my goals. Measuring helps me be able to eat enough and not starve myself. That tendency from my eating disorder stage hasn't gone away and probably never will. It's not so bad to measure.

I also don't seek to recreate things like cheese or ice cream - they are trigger foods for me. I much prefer eating "new to me" foods like whole grains and old fashioned oats with a positive association than overeating vegan mac and cheese. I simply don't have the ability to eat certain foods without falling into old patterns. It's good that some people can handle it!

If someone else can keep up with cooking and enjoying all the variety, that's good too! :D

I had bulimia for 10 years when younger. It is something that I feel never fully goes away. If I don't get much variety (such as when I did Mary's Mini with potatoes) I start to really crave sugary sweet things. Many items on the list are my regular food:

oats, fruit of some sort, plant milk for breakfast

Lunch : bulgar with whatever veg I fancy with a nootch/cider vinegar/miso dressing - cooked in winter raw in summer

Evening meal: soup (batch cooked barley and bean usually) with additional veg added (broccoli/spinach/kale/celery etc)

cereal at bedtime

I like to eat about 10 portions of fruit and veg daily, maximum 2-3 fruit. I have a family history of bowel cancer (both parents and both their fathers) and get constipated at the drop of a hat. Keeping my movements regular is a major occupation. I have Essential Tremor and met a fellow sufferer not that long ago who was told by a specialist that constipation is a possible side effect of ET - interesting.
