I'd probably add liquid smoke or perhaps smoked paprika or chipotle powder--something smokey, anyway. You can also make charro beans on the stovetop or in a slow cooker.

I have never heard of charro beans - that looks like a very tasty recipe.

That looks super yummy. We’re having taco night tonight, so I might put that together, sans jalepenos, add smoked paprika. Poblanos would be excellental, if they have them at the store.
