I have tried every tip there is and none of them work. But I figured it out myself, and here is what I do -
I have a small tabletop cordless fan in my kitchen that I used to use when going through menopause. (I never knew when I would suddenly be a LOT hotter than everyone else in the room and need a personal fan, lol.) I don't need it much anymore but I discovered that if I place it on the counter top to the left or right of the cutting board, it blows the onion fumes away and I don't cry!

I find breathing through my mouth instead of my nose works. I also hold my breath and turn my head away to take a big breath.

Not recommended. I've cut fingers that way.
