I use these chips in muffins now and then.
I think you have to consider your own individual health situation or the health situation of whoever will be eating the cookie to determine what's within McDougall's guidelines. Big picture. I know Heather McDougall has an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie recipe in the archives that uses semi-sweet chocolate chips. Kid-friendly recipe that calls for 1 1/2 cups of chocolate chips. It's the last recipe here
https://www.drmcdougall.com/misc/2013nl/mar/recipes.htm I don't think carob chips would be healthier than the chips I listed because they would probably contain added oil (oil, sugar, carob powder). Can't really say I like the taste of carob either. Cacao nibs might be another option. Basically pieces of cocoa bean.
