Best Sandwich Spread?

Postby vgpedlr » Mon May 25, 2015 11:18 am

Reading the thread in the Lounge about the guy with the cheese sandwiches had me thinking about sandwiches.

What is your favorite sandwich/wrap spread and accompaniments?

I really like the Oh She Glows spread:
http://trainingtableblog.net/2015/02/17/oh-she-glows-chickpea-salad/
It's similar to chickpea "not-tuna" salad, but with more veggies. Great taste and texture.
I made this one a while back on a lark, one of Mary's recipes:

DEVILED SPREAD: (Quick and Easy CookBook)

1 can kidney beans
1/3 C sweet pickle relish
1/4 C tofu mayo
1/2 T prepared mustard
black pepper

I guess it's supposed to be like deviled ham? I don't know what that is any more! I know I also made a cajun version adding cajun spices, or leftover tofu remoulade or something similar.

I also like the white bean artichoke spread from the Starch Solution.

My favourite sandwich uses homemade garlic hummus and sweet chilli sauce as the spreads. Then I add lettuce, tomato, cucumber, sprouts, red peppers (anything really).

I like this on toasted multigrain bread for a crunchy sandwich, or wrapped up in a whole grain pita.

Mmmmm...I need to go and get some pitas.

Sounds great. I made some garlic hummus this morning. I will have to give it a try.

I really like that Oh She Glows chickpea sandwich spread and make it often.
I just made the McDougall deviled spread for the first time yesterday. Lovely, although a little sweet so I added more mustard.
Another fave is lentils, cooked with curry powder then mashed to make a spreadable dahl.
I have been known to put so much spread in my sandwich it is more like a cold sloppy joe!

Me too. I might make this today and have it with some Engine 2 plant based burgers.
