I chose Paragard, too. It seems like the best choice - as effective as a vasectomy, nothing to remember, and no hormones. I think the absorption of copper is pretty small, and remember, you’re not going to use it for the rest of your life. And it has to be a way better choice than Mirena.
I’m pregnant at the moment, but will get Paragard again after I give birth. Since they last 10-12 years, mine should get me until menopause, then no more!
I’d be more concerned about the copper if I was actually ingesting it. Aluminum is not good, and neither is cholesterol. Did you read Dr. Barnard’s book Power Foods for the Brain? Copper is an essential mineral, just you don’t want too much. Assuming you are eating a healthy diet, I don’t think the short term use of a copper IUD will tip the scales for dementia.
