Proposed New Nutrition Label

Jeff,

I am sure you have seen the information on the proposed new nutrition label
which will drop the "Calories from Fat" number. I am concerned because that is
one of the numbers you have taught us we can use to do the math and know what
is really in the package.

Here is an article about it: http://www.businessinsider.com/fda-proposes-new-nutrition-labels-2014-2
with an image of the proposed label

Here is the FDA page about it: http://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/Newsroom/PressAnnouncements/ucm387418.htm

This is the reason for not giving us this information anymore. As stated on the FDA site:

"While continuing to require “Total Fat,” “Saturated Fat,” and “Trans Fat” on the label,
“Calories from Fat” would be removed because research shows the type of fat is more
important than the amount."

Since the time for "public comment" has elapsed I suspect this is a fait accompli.

I am very interested in knowing how we can get the necessary information from the new label.

Without being able to compare the "Calories per Serving" to the "Calories from Fat" how will we know
the real percentage of fat in the package?

Thank you.

Thank You Jeff.

I didn't think of The Lounge. When I had a label question you were
my first source. I am sorry to bother you with a duplicate.

Since this was my first post and it is that time: let me say that you,
your colleagues and your support staff(s) are something I am very
thankful for. Because of the positive results your work has had on
my life and the lives of my friends who have chosen to listen.

Jeff, can you add the post above to your "Hot Topics" thread at the top? It's probably going to be needed often!
