I think your growing (pun intended) veggie habit is going to be your salvation.

You inspire me to get veggies on my plate! It seems to be the one thing on my MWL template (besides the otter pops/simple sugars that I AM going to eat this summer) that consistently evades me. Well...thank goodness for the produce department. I'll pick me up some leafy greens today!

Yay!

I skipped the green veggies at breakfast out of laziness today, but most meals, I have at least some. I think it's helping, because it makes me do a lot of chewing, so it feels like I've eaten way more than I really have, if that makes sense. I mean, calories-wise.

Here is a tally of the last 7 days on MWL plan. Eliminate all animal foods has moved to the top of the list! Last week I achieved this guideline 57% of the week. It's down to 29%. My weekly percentage for a guideline hasn't been this low since I started tracking it.

GUIDELINE, # Days/Week
Eliminate All Animal Foods, 2
Eliminate All Flour Products, 3
Make exercise a part of each day, 3
Eliminate All High Fat Plant Foods, 5
Eat Legumes, 6
Use Simple Sugar Sparingly, 6
Eliminate All Oils, 7
Eat Whole Grains and Potatoes, 7
Make Green & Yellow Vegetables 1/2 - 1/3 of meal, 7
Eat Uncooked Foods, 7
Restrict Fresh Fruit - 2 servings a day, 7

Thank you, Idgie, for that positive thought. :) My tendency is to be all about the negative sometimes.

My weight is the same as last week - 178 lbs. Too much off plan eating and not enough exercise this last week. Hopefully there will be a change in that going forward. I bought a spiralizer recently. I love it. Zucchini and summer squash cook so quickly. I also love it for onion. I am keeping onion noodles in the fridge to throw on salads and beans. Very tasty. Today I played around with potato noodles. I made an awesome potato noodle pie crust. Not sure what I'll do with that. Maybe put pizza toppings on it.

Fun! I haven't been tempted to get a spiralizer before, but now you're giving me ideas.

If you like playing around with food I bet you’ll like it. I bought a small handheld one last year but it didn’t work very well. This one is a table top one that you put the food on then spiral away. I wish I could post a picture of the crust. It holds together. I think because the noodles are in sure long threads that when I mixed them all together it made a mat.

Idgie, more food for thought.. I made two crusts. One was a rectangle. I was playing around with different techniques. Both worked fine. The rectangle I cut in half and had two pieces the size of a slice of bread. I sautéed a portabella mushroom with kale and let it dry out a little to reduce the sauce I cooked it in. Then put that on the potato crust with fresh onion and ate it like a sandwich. The crust held up. I really miss being able to eat sandwiches. (The MWL plan discourages flour products.) I like this alternative.

Now you know I'm a food nerd who likes to play around in the kitchen with my food. :)

Me, too! I'm fine with keeping it simple for the first while, as I get used to MWL compliance, but I am drawn to creativity in the kitchen.

Yesterday, I had a "burger" that was just a portabella cap with onion/tomato/pickle/mustard/onion on it, and it was the closest I've come to a sandwich in a while. Last time I was McDougalling, I occasionally would make "sandwiches" out of slices of roasted potatoes with hummus or bean dip inside.

My two goals this week are to eliminate all animal products and to exercise every day. I gave in last week and bought some sprouted whole wheat bread. I thought I would save it for when I wanted veggies burgers but I have had toast every night. I guess I've really missed bread! Today I'm going to put the bread in the bottom of my chest freezer. I'll really have to think about it before digging down to pull it out. I'm a nut! I ordered The Pleasure Trap. It should be here today. Hopefully something in the book will inspire my willpower to grow.

I bought The Pleasure Trap as my reward for my 15 pound weight-loss mark. I'm currently reading The Starch Solution (my 10-pound reward) but when I'm done with it, I'm starting on that next. We can do this!

Hi Idgie,

I just now thought of something, relative to eyesight, since we were just discussing that over on your journal. I'm remembering one summer, the summer before I started McDougalling in 09...I had a month of eating at least one large green tossed salad a day. I made massive piles of chopped greens and a variety of chopped salad veggies, and put whatever I wanted ON TOP of the salad. Pizza salad, spaghetti salad, cheeseburger salad (not really, but you get the gist)...well, lo and behold if I wasn't finding my eyes adjusting to the dark a LOT faster!

Now I REALLY want to start adding more greens! but I wonder if lots of greens wouldn't do wonders for you, too!
