Thanks for your tips lw!

I went to Veg Fest yesterday with my roomies! One is a registered dietician but really believes a plants based diet is best. She does eat occasional ice cream and occasional meat but her diet is very plant strong and she is an amazing cook! She decided to try vegan for 30 days! YAY!

We also bought the movie Forks over Knifes. It was so good and interesting. There were also a few vegan body builders at the event, they looked amazing and did no supplements- only whole plant foods and a multi (not mcdougall) But that was exciting.

I'm doing well- yesterday was a good day and no overeating. I did my body fat percentage at the corporate gym I work (I'm a fitness specialist... i.e. teach group ex, personal train, do health promotions programs for the member employees and do admin stuff to run the fitness center) anyways. My body fat was 16%. My best races occured when I was around 13%.

I'm worried about my 50 miler in November. I know I am not in my best shape and could stand to train more/lose a little. But I have to be careful with training so I don't get injured. I am in better shape than last year for this race. And I'm 10 pounds lighter.

I finally registered for the CRON-O-Meter. So easy. I probably won't do it every day. Because I'm actually doing very well.

I had 74% carbs, 13% fat, and 13% protein. A little high in fat I think, but it's because I had 2 T of chia and 1T of flax today. Also I had 2 cups of oats. the rest was almost fat free stuff.

I met all nutrients except Vitamin D, B12, and E. I was actually surprised to have 610 mg of calcium and it said I met requirements? I thought I needed like 1000 mg?

I did take a multi today (I do about every 3 days, until I run out then i'll just get b12 and possibly a small dose of D) and after that I met all nutrients.

Comments/thoughts? :)

I haven't been on much lately. I am getting blood work done and I will hear back next week. I have been McDougalling except about 6 days total, and they were really bad. Vegan cookies and vegan burritos (with white tortillas and guac.) etc. Embarrassing. But I've kicked up my training a lot so I am still maintaining around 114. I need to eat more McDougall friendly high calorie foods or just MORE so I don't binge on vegan junk. But I'm working on it!

How many miles per week do you usually run? How many miles per month? What does your training plan look like?

Since I am training for my first half-marathon, I have browsed training plans for full marathons and have noticed that many have 20 miles as the longest single day run in the training plan.

If someone is training for a 50 mile ultra marathon, what kind of "long run" would lead up to race day as a preparation?

So, how's it going? Are you still doing well on the McDougall program? Any races in the near future?

I'm always interested in how long distance runners handle the McDougall diet. I think the McDougall diet is the perfect diet for runners. Carb-loading 24/7. Scott Yurek is a ultramarathoner and eats vegan (not quite McDougall though).
